I recently saw a show on the military channel about the top 10 helicopters.. they left out a real workhorse. The CH-46 Sea Knight as used formerly by the US Navy and USMC.. I'm not sure if the Sea Knight is still in use by the USMC.

First welcome, second this is dedicated attack helicopters thread (oh and occasionaly rodents like the MI28) and seaknight is a transport
Second Seaknight has a few counts against it.
1 its a fine transport but the army chinook is superior in terms of lift production and upgrading.
2 It like all current helicopters dates to the 1970s. Its old and slow.
3 Osprey. The V22 was built to replace it and offers much greater speed.
Now until Osprey numbers reach enough to have one for one replaced Seaknight they are still in service. The navy has retired theirs though.

South Korea to buy Apache attack choppers

SEOUL - South Korea said on Wednesday it had agreed to buy a fleet of US Apache attack helicopters in a deal with reported to be worth $1.5 billion, at a time of heightened tensions with the North.

The Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) said it would acquire 36 of the AH-64E Apache Guardian choppers from Boeing over a three-year period from 2016.

The DAPA said the chopper has the ability to destroy tanks and armoured vehicles, it said, adding that it would strengthen the South's defences against provocation from the North.

The decision comes as the Korean peninsula remains in a state of heightened military tension with the North threatening "thermo-nuclear war", angered by fresh UN sanctions and joint South Korea-US military exercises.

The agency declined to give prices saying only the deal includes the transfer of technology but Yonhap news agency said the project would cost a total of 1.8 trillion won ($1.5 billion).

South Korea will be the fourth country to buy the four-blade, twin-engine helicopter after the United States, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia, Yonhap said.

The chopper will replace a fleet of AH-1 Cobra helicopters that have been in service for decades in South Korea, DAPA officials said.

I always find this helicopter interesting. I am wondering if it can carry passengers on this armed version. It looks like a light Mi-24

It might but not many. The weapons load eats alot of weight, and there is only so much to play with. Remember every pound you adds to the aircraft reduces its performance and a combat type like this has to be a top performer when being shot at. That said the advantage of the crew cabin on a attack helicopter is more a matter of ambulatory evacuation then transport.
