^^that is my main concern with the PLA these days, one only need to look at the Peace Mission 2012 SCO exercise pictures for comparison
how would you train without the equipments?

you got shiny new 08s series AFVs, no point of using these AFVs if your individual soldier aren't well protected enough
yes good protection gears are expensive, and yes good tac coms and radios are expensive, but i(and many people i think) wouldn't mind even if PLA start doing it by the cheap

Doubt it. Never seen PLA active troops in nice gears. They only have guns and helmets. You wouldn't even see them in radios, ballistic vests and camel-paks, which are now basic necessities in modern infantries.

I thought I saw some when the PLA were conducting UN missions, of course the special forces has them, but as far as regular infantry units in China, you're right about that. I don't think there's not too many threats going on between China's border and its neighbors.

A Palestinian was killed and several people, including three soldiers, were wounded on Monday in clashes at a refugee camp in northern Lebanon. Unidentified militants crossed from Egypt's turbulent Sinai Peninsula into southern Israel on Monday, opening light arms and anti-tank fire on civilians building a security fence meant to fortify the porous border, defense officials said. One of the Israeli workers was killed, and two militants were gunned down by troops responding to the attack, the officials said.

Ivory Coast's soldiers patrol in the village on Para, on June 17, 2012 following an attack in the southwest, close to the border with Liberia last week. Seven Niger troops, 10 civilians and at least one Ivorian soldier were killed in the June 8 attack while patrolling villages south of the small town of Tai, near the Liberian border, the worst attack on ONUCI since its 2004 deployment. The zone has been ****e to unrest for the past year, with bloody operations blamed in a recent report by Human Rights Watch on forces loyal to former president Laurent Gbagbo, whom the New York-based non-governmental organisation accused of recruiting child soldiers.

When the World Cup was in Mexico in 1986..the hooligans caused zero problems. Why? They know the Mexican police do not play.

Amen to that, too bad host nations like Poland and Ukraine could take a few lessons regarding hooligans from causing trouble. Especially that ugly scene between a few of both Poland fans and Russian fans when their teams met up for a game last week.

OMG, even Lebanese and Afghan soldiers wear ballistic vests. Brazilians and Mexicans have ballistic vests as well. Only those left in Africa don't have them. Is China's infantry really as poorly equipped as those Africans?????? Where did those hundreds of billions of military spendings go?

Afghan troops and Mexican police get there's via US grants and "Copay", The body armor seen in wear earlier in the thread is not of the same generation as those worn by them as they are of a older type. Indications of body armor for the PLA have popped up over the years it's just that for what ever reasons the PLA seems too like not too wear it The biggest reason for non wear it likely lack of need. Let's face it most of the Photos we get are "Training" shots and even then staged ones. they have body armor but other then Sale promos the only time you would likely see it is police actions. that said it's hard too say just how good it is. Likely now they are starting too move too the interceptor vest level of protection but the cost is the issue combined with the quality

The problem is that we never ever see PLA wear it. We often get a glimpse of active special forces operating against drug cartels in SouthWest China. Even those active combat units don't wear ballistic vests. That's scary. Those drug dealers/gangs have at least handguns. Many of them from Vietnam and Myanmar even have assault rifles.

If I get sent there without a ballistic vest, I'll literally sue my generals in the military court.
