I must say right know I'm not exactly up-tp-date on that particular topic. But an additional 3.000 officers for the federal police was decided on about 3 month ago just to be able to get to manning levels barely allowing a comprehensive registraion of refugees coming in country. I guess they just packed another 1.000 on top now.
...
yeah that 4000 I noticed actually could be just some "feel good number" announced for the public consumption

on a side note (of course irrelevant from the German point of view), I noticed the number of asylum applications had actually dropped in the Czech Republic in 2015 :) (it's been very small anyway: around one hundred individuals) likely because:
  1. Migrants are not interested in low-income countries, obviously, and in addition
  2. the Czech system is tough; now I found the article in English from 2013:

First the South Koreans demand Japan to compensate for their WW2 atrocities with their rape troops. Now the Filipinos are demanding the same. How soon will the rest of Asia demand Japan to compensate for ALL of their sins that they've try to play down on it for decades?

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A group of elderly Filipino women raped by Japanese troops during World War II called for compensation from Japan on Wednesday, following Tokyo's pledge of $8.3 million for South Korean women forced into Japanese military-run brothels during the war.

The women's lawyers said they were also exploring the possibility of filing cases with United Nations bodies and holding Philippine President Benigno Aquino III liable for allegedly failing to support the case of the women against Japan.

Isabelita Vinuya, the 84-year-old president of Malaya Lolas — a group of Filipino women abducted and raped by Japanese troops in their village — urged the Philippine government to support their demand for justice from Japan.

"We have appealed more than once or twice to our government to help us, support us before Japan so that we can be given justice for the sufferings we went through during World War II," Vinuya said at a news conference, adding that many of the women have died without seeing justice.

Japan and South Korea announced last week that they had settled their decades-long standoff over wartime sex slaves, with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe apologizing and agreeing to contribute 1 billion yen ($8.3 million) for a foundation to help support the victims. Historians say tens of thousands of women from around Asia were sent to front-line military brothels to provide sex to Japanese soldiers.

"Is there a difference in the rape of a South Korean and a Filipino woman?" Harry Roque, the Filipino victims' lawyer, said at Wednesday's news conference. "The answer is there should be none, because rape is a crime against women and is prohibited by international humanitarian law and is recognized as an international crime."

He noted that South Korea's Supreme Court had ordered the government to fight for the rights of the Korean victims, but that the Philippines' top court dismissed in 2010 a case filed by Vinuya and 70 other women urging the court to compel the government to press their claims against Japan. The Philippine court also denied an appeal filed by the women.

Vinuya said she was 13 when the Japanese troops raped women and children in her village of Mapaniqui in Pampanga province, around 60 kilometers (37 miles) north of Manila. The troops also razed homes and killed men in the village. Three other women at Wednesday's news conference said they were teenagers when they were raped during the siege.

Vinuya said that only 32 of more than 90 women from her victims' group are still alive. Only 70 of 174 from another such group, the Lila-Filipina, are alive, according to its head, Richilda Extremadura.

Extremadura also called on Japan to compensate former sex slaves and rape victims from the Philippines and 11 other countries and urged President Aquino to initiate talks with Japan.

Well, Jura, I have now read the following in several places, and it has been confirmed.

According to the Koeln Police Chief, Wolfgang Albers, the perpetrators were from "North Africa and Arab countries". Then, Arnold Plickert, Vice President of the police union in North Rhine-Westphalia defended Albers MDR interview, saying, "This is just right, we must know who did this and it must also not be denied. To do so would go in a completely wrong direction. Whoever lives in our system of values, has to follow them. Whoever commits such offenses, our system must show its limits."

Apparently, women that night were surrounded and robbed by groups of up to 40 men, who then also sometimes committed group sexual assaults, including rape, against them.

But the Koeln Mayor, Henriette Reker, who was a strong proponent of the massive immigration, rejected a link between the violence and the immigration and refugee situation.

Guys, this behavior is atrocious and unacceptable in any civilized country.

It is now well established that in Koeln and other cities, that many woman were sexually assaulted and quite a few raped by groups of young African and Arabian men on New Year's.

A very lamentable part is the reaction from some of the politicians , like this Mayor.

Apparently she feels that she must defend her immigration and refugee stance, and try and distance that stance from what happened. But the facts are what they are and the Police Chief, and the Police Union have made it clear what happened.

So now, this mayor, says that European women should have a better code of conduct to prevent the assaults and rapes...in essence, blaming the victims.

I find this almost unbelievable, and something that will only promote more of the same.

If any particular cultures are generating such behavior, then immigration should screen for things that lead to these actions and not allow them into the nation. It is folly to do so, and then think that all of a sudden people who have been raised a certain way, when being introduced to western culture will suddenly change and reform.

This is only putting their own citizens in danger. I do not care what culture it is...what color the people are...what is important for any leader is to protect your own citizens. My guess is that the women who were assaulted themselves came from different ethnicities and races. All of them should be protected on the streets and in the squares of their cities.

The average Syrian refugee is 29 years younger than the average German, who is 46.

Merkel and business saw the chance to flood Germany with cheap, young labour, which will drive down wages.

This is all about cheap labor that German industry desperately needs, nothing more, nothing less

They did not consider the social impact, not to mention safety concerns for their own citizens or what will happen if the refugees do not solve the labour shortage for any reason.

This outrageous contempt showed by German leadership towards their own people will backfire badly

Obamas invite Syrian refugee to State of the Union Address
President Obama is taking a dramatic step to show he opposes Republican efforts to slow or halt the admission of refugees over terrorist concerns: He has invited a Syrian refugee to attend his State of the Union Address.

Refaai Hamo, 55, a native of Syria now living in Detroit, will sit in first lady Michelle Obama's box in the House of Representatives gallery for Tuesday night's speech. Hamo drew international attention last month after he was featured in the popular blog "

."

The scientist fled Syria's civil war in 2013 after his family home was destroyed by a bomb, killing his wife, daughter and five other relatives. He developed stomach cancer and had trouble getting treatment in Turkey, where he and millions of other Syrians have fled. After two years, he was approved for refugee status in the United States and arrived in Detroit last month.

His ordeal prompted Obama to call him "an inspiration," and actor Edward Norton organized a fundraising drive for him.

"I was thrilled when I heard that President Barack Obama is welcoming us into the United States," Hamo said in a statement. "I felt that hope was revived as well as the strength to continue my dreams and ambition in my new country. I am so proud and honored to be in this country and look forward to one day becoming an American citizen so that we can be part of making America a strong and great country."

The invitation creates a sharp contrast to Republicans who want to block refugees from war-ravaged Middle East nations because Islamic State radicals and other terrorists might try to sneak into the country by claiming refugee status.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has called for a temporary ban on admitting Muslims until the U.S. government can "figure out what is going on." House Republicans passed a bill in November to temporarily halt Syrian and Iraqi refugee programs and to screen future applicants more carefully.

Those fears ramped up when a group of Syrians was

in the United States on terrorism charges brought the issue back to the forefront.

"It's like my grandfather said, if there's a hole in the bucket, turn the spigot off first, then fix the bucket," Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., co-author of the SAFE Act passed by the House, said on MSNBC's MTP Daily on Friday.

The White House says such a delay is unnecessary because the screening process for people from Syria, Iraq and other countries inhabited by Islamist extremists is already strong enough to ensure the security of the homeland. Refugees from Syria, for example, go through 18 to 24 months of interviews and background checks before they're granted refugee status in the U.S.

The State Department says that the vast majority of Syrian refugees admitted are women and children and that only a tiny fraction fit the typical terrorist profile: single, young men.

On Friday, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said any attempt to halt that program and screen people based on "some sort of religious test" is wrong.

"It doesn't represent who we are as a country," Earnest said. "And most importantly, it's not going to keep us safe."

This massive golden statue of Mao Zedong in rural China drew a wave of criticism on social media before officials tore it down.

Well, turns out the late communist leader's reign was short-lived this time around: The extravagant statue was demolished just two days after news of its completion,

The 120-foot, gold-painted statue

to construct and was reportedly funded by local businessmen and villagers from Tongxu County in China's Henan province.

But a village official told the People's Daily that

show the statue's head covered with a large black cloth as it was dismantled. Security officials and groups of unidentified men in olive green coats reportedly blocked the streets leading up to the statue as it was being torn down.

On social media earlier this week, people criticized the statue's construction, saying that the money

in Henan province, where the statue was built, died from a mass famine resulting from Mao Zedong's restrictive policies in the 1950s. It continues to be one of the poorest provinces in China to this day.

The above photo's caption reads, "China's first statue of Chairman Mao, 120 ft high and estimated to be 3,000,000 yuan, was torn down on Jan. 7, according to media reports. What a shame! That is Tongxu," according to a HuffPost translation.

While it's unclear who exactly was behind the statue's construction in the first place, The New York Times reports

it was the idea of a local businessman named Sun Qingxin, who heads a machine manufacturing business and owns food processing facilities, hospitals and schools.

If any of you guys have 200 million dollars to spare. You can not only buy the Playboy Mansion but for that price you can get Hugh Hefner with it as well. :D

Playboy Mansion on sale for $200 million — Hef included

The ultimate bachelor pad is up for sale — with the ultimate former bachelor included.

The Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills, California, is being put up for sale by Playboy Enterprises for $200 million. But since the deal will be structured as a "living estate," any buyer will have to allow the mansion's famous resident — 89-year-old Hugh Hefner — to continue renting the house until his death.

The listing of the 22,000-square-foot Gothic Tudor mansion comes amidst a continued overhaul of Playboy Enterprises as it seeks to shift from a racy magazine publisher to a global licensing company.

Hefner bought the mansion in 1971 for a then-record $1.05 million.

He lives in the mansion with his his wife, 29-year-old former Playmate of the Month Crystal Harris. But Hefner rents his living quarters and other areas from Playboy Enterprises.

While the home has a fabled history — parties, celebrities, racy entanglements — the home is unlikely to fetch anywhere near $200 million, according to brokers. The most expensive sale in Holmby HIlls is the reported $102 million paid for the larger and more elaborate Fleur de Lys Estate in 2014.

The Playboy Mansion has 29 rooms, including a catering kitchen, wine cellar, home theater, separate game house, gym, tennis court and swimming pool with a cave-like grotto.

It also has a four bedroom guest house and includes 5 acres of land. The property also has aviaries and several exotic animal pens.

The press release for the listing touts the added benefit that the Playboy Mansion is "one of a select few residences in L.A. with a zoo license."

The mansion is being listed by Drew Fenton and Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland, along with Mauricio Umansky of The Agency.
