I remember reading the syndicated news on our newspaper reporting that one army division was the verge of going to joust with a pro-govt division. Everyday, our newspaper coverage of that event ran into a few pages. I thought a civil war was looming. WTH?!
Even more WTH?! happened in the run-up to the Beijing 2008 Olympics when there were reports alleging that Jackie Chan and the film director Zhang Yimou were going to demonstrate against their own govt on the Tibetan issue. The extent to which the Western media stretched reality would not be out of place in a political thriller.
I won't derail the thread, but for those who are interested, I debunked the Tianamen Square Massacre lie over here using western sourced facts.
