U.S. Navy and Army Divers along with Federal, state, and local authorities participate in a joint service operation to raise the sunken former Soviet submarine at Collier Point Park. Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2, U.S. Army Dive Company and a NAVSEA Support Unit prepare to salvage the former Soviet submarine that sank at her mooring point in about 30 feet of water during a nor'easter, which struck Providence in April of 2007. PACIFIC OCEAN (June 26, 2008) The aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) receives fuel from the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Guadalupe (T-AO 200) while steaming through the central Pacific Ocean. The ships will both be taking part in the 'Rim of the Pacific' exercise off Hawaii in July with units from Australia, Chile, Japan, the Netherlands, Peru, South Korea, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Taking part in RIMPAC will be 35 ships, six submarines, more than 150 aircraft, and 20,000 sailors, airmen, marines, soldiers and coast guardsmen. This will be Kitty Hawk's last exercise before returning to the U.S. mainland for decommissioning in early 2009. Kitty Hawk will be replaced by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) this summer as the only U.S. carrier operating from Japan. NAS LEMOORE, Calif. (July 1, 2008) Marines assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 465 exit a CH-53E Super Stallion at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore. Marines with the Marine Medium Helicopter Training Squadron (HMMT) 164, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (HMM) 268 and HMH-465 are conducting firefighting support operations in northern California as part of the 302nd Air Expeditionary Group.
