Well I've said in some other occasions that the M777 reminds alot of the D-30 in the mehcanical concept. The usage and operational concept is however different. Yet M777 was the first american artillery piece which brought them to the same level as the D30 did in soviet hemisphere and that is the relatively powerfull lightweight gun/howitser.

One of the peculiar thing in this and other western guns is that the traverse and elevation wheels cannot be operated by one guy. This is IMO weird as in the aiming you need to be fast but precisious at the same time. Two operators=two minds=douple the change that the gun isen't fixed to the exact right position when needed.

Anotherone is that apparently the guys have only earplugs and not the douple-protection muffcobs+earblugs as we used. And you can ask anyone who have been even near a artillery piece when its fired with full charges that the latter arragment is the one you need. Also the guys lacks active ear-muffcops which would speed and improve the communication inside the crew. Quess the joke in our army "this isen't no US army" when someone tried to do something expensive isen't so solid after all:D

I know when I worked on the flight deck myself and many other wore earplugs and of course the required helmets.

As for USMC "arty" It's had to imangine they do not have double ear protection. Perhaps there is something fitted under the helmet.

Thanks again golly!:D

The US Army and US Marine Corps are very different in there budgetary and Acquisitions. so just cause the Army has some thing does not mean the Marines will to.

Nice job Jeff. I'm biased but I think the USN has the best photos of all the US DoD online. They are easy to navigate and download and all are of excellent quality. However sometimes the USN has to many "photo op" & pulblicity photos. And photos of events . The USN needs to post more photos of sailors doing their jobs.

I usually go to the:

...and then pic the gallerie I am wanting to look at (ie. Carriers, Destroyers, Subs, Ampphibious, etc.) and then make sure to view it four-up.

Those galleries seem to have less PR photo ops, and when you view them four-up you can quickly avoid those pics.
