I seriously hope the Pentagon has learned its bitter lesson regarding the ridiculous concept known as "concurrency" with the F-35 program. I'm sick of my tax dollars being sunk into Lockmart's coffers. :(
Solaris, it may be that they learn some "tough" lessons...and that is expected when you are trying to advance the technology the way the F-35 is, and doing so across three services...but in the end it will be anything but "bitter."

The F-35, in its three forms, will be viewed in histroy as one of the most successful, most versatile, and most capable aircraft acquisitions in history.

It will become this generation's "F-16," and more.

It will be the most exported and used fifth generation aircraft in history, and it will perform extremely well over its life span.

I am willing to wager that there will not be another 5th generation fighter built that will be as overall dominant across the board, Air Forces, Navies, and Marines, as the F-35 will be, nor one that will be as produced...probably not another one that will have as many as 20% the numbers that the F-35 will have.

And those numbers, and that proliferation to so many nations, whose planners will choose the F-35 (and indeed, already are) will speak for itself...despite all of the naysaying.

Love it or hate it the F35 is here to stay. Period. It will be the primary fighter/attack aircraft of most NATO and allied nations for the next 20-30 years. I also see it having the longevity to go on the used market for a couple more decades past that in 2nd tired nations long after when 6th gen aircraft are already plowing the skies. I will not be surprise at all to see her still flying in the late 2050s or 2060s but I'll be a very very old man by then assuming the good Lord still wants me here.

At this time I just don't see any aircraft type challenging it's numerical advantage in the foreseeable future.

Agree...except if I live to see the 2040s I will be unbelievably, extremely grateful. 2040 and I am 84 years old!

So, sometime during the 2030s (in all likelihood, though we never really know) will be about as far as my involvement is likely to run.

It's not how long long you live but how well you live that matters but I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir ;). As long as you've had a good run at the end of the road...it's all good.

Which reminds me I need to start working on my bucket list...:D

Sorry for the OT guys!

Oh...I am not worried, and do not fear that time when the good Lord calls my number.

I have grandparents, a Mom and Dad, and a couple of brothers and lots of aunts and uncles arleady over yonder, 'cross Jordan...and I look forward to the day I am allowed to join them. Not rushing it mind you...hehehe...but I am more than okay with it when the time comes.

Besides, with the way the good Lord

, every day is already a great gift beyond what I might have otherwise expected.

Anyhow...I'll keep following this stuff as long as I have my senses and am able. It's a passion...gleaned from my grand dad's and dad's service in the US Navy, my son-in-law's service now, and my own involvement in design and engineering with DOD on several projects for Naval systems.

Based on all of that, and my own very careful and in depth study...the F-35 is not only going to be a keeper...it's going to be a winner.

We'll re-convene back here in 2030 and discuss it...and if not, well, then, we'll kick back up yonder and reminisce! LOL!

It could have achieved all of these things you are saying and have been billions cheaper. Is a couple years of LRIP worth that price tage? Not IMO.

OK guys.. Any one want to comment on the flying dorito? Looks real. Not Reaper for for sure.

this is actually one of a number of "Dorito" sightings in the mid west. Early guess was B2 but the tail is all wrong some "Dorito" are concaved some convexed or flat. My thinking is that they are two different crafts both likely unmanned with the concaved being a test article for the Upcoming B3 and the other being a new series of drones.
still the biggest question of these sightings is... Ranch or Nacho?
