Is the US Air Force too politically correct these days?

Not trying to start anything here but I think this story reflects that and it has to do with the US military.

The Baby Jesus has been kicked off Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, according to an organization who relishes any opportunity to eradicate Christianity from the U.S. military.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation praised officials at Shaw Air Force Base for removing a Nativity scene located near Memorial Lake on Friday. The traditional Nativity included plastic statues of Mary, Joseph, the Baby Jesus and an assortment of animals.

Apparently, an undisclosed number of Airmen were so emotionally troubled by the sight of a manger scene that they immediately notified the MRFF.

I can only imagine the psychological damage they must have suffered as a result of glancing at the plastic statues.
I can only imagine the psychological damage they must have suffered as a result of glancing at the plastic statues. I hope no one needed hospitalization, God forbid.

The MRFF’s Paul Loebe wrote in a statement that since the display was not erected near a chapel, it was illegal.

“It was very sectarian in nature and a direct violation of the U.S. Constitution as well as a blatant violation of Air Force Instruction 1-1, Section 2.11,” he said.

So the Newborn King is a violation of Air Force regulations? Who knew?

Loebe swiftly alerted MRFF President Mikey Weinstein who then called his BFF’s at the Pentagon. That led to an immediate investigation and more than two hours later, the Nativity had been removed.

“To the Air Force’s credit, it agreed with MRFF’s arguments to remove the Nativity scene swiftly and apparently found this scene to be as much a violation of all the pertinent regulations and the United States Constitution as MRFF did,” he stated.

He praised the Air Force for “acting so swiftly to reverse this egregious violation.”

So why did the Air Force unceremoniously boot the Son of God and why are they so terrified of Mikey Weinstein?

The public affairs office at Shaw AFB did not return three telephone calls and an email seeking comment. They must have been preoccupied hauling away the donkey and the sheep.

Hiram Sasser, the director of litigation for Liberty Institute, told me the military’s actions were unconstitutional.

“This was private speech,” he said. “The military can say no displays on a base but it cannot allow a display and then ban it simply because of its religious viewpoint.”

Sasser said the Supreme Court has ruled in the past that viewpoint discrimination even in a non-public forum such as a military base in unconstitutional.

“It appears that Mikey Weinstein has a special hotline to call his friends in leadership at the Pentagon to alert them to engage in unnecessary and, in this case, unlawful censorship of private religious speech,” he said.

Fox News commentator Sarah Palin, the author of the new book, “Good Tidings and Great Joy,” said what happened at Shaw Air Force base is not surprising.

“We see stories like this every day and yet leftwing pundits still claim that the so-called ‘War on Christmas’ is a figment of the imagination,” Palin told me. “The War on Christmas is just the top of the spear in a larger battle to marginalize expressions of faith and make true religious freedom a thing of the past.”

Palin’s book is a call to arms for Americans to “stand strong on America’s faith-filled foundation.”

“Never let these scrooges strip away the true meaning of Christmas,” she told me.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation bragged that it only took the Air Force two hours and 15 minutes to remove Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Sasser doubted the military would respond with such speed to correct what he called “unconstitutional religious viewpoint discrimination.”

He said he was surprised the Pentagon responded so swiftly to Weinstein’s demands - “as if he were under attack in a foreign country in need of rescue from a deadly mob.”

“Apparently if you are ever in trouble and need a quick response from the Pentagon, tell them a plastic Baby Jesus is at the gates.”

Maybe that’s what they should’ve done in Benghazi.

I think that it makes more sense for the US to recycle the aid to Afghanistan back into the US economy by selling them American-made Chinooks rather than buying them Russian Mi-17s which is why I am trying to figure out why the Pentagon is doing the opposite, they must have a good reason.

Here's the rub. The MI 17 is more versatile. a Chinnook is just a transport. A Hip however can become a attack platform. The Chinook is a good bird but Afghanistan is high territory and not all of it is suitable for her. Hip has a slightly better altitude range.

Your are onto the big secret here Kwai, not only is the USAF becoming "feminized, it is on a mission to punish the masculine nature of fighter pilot/pilot culture, it astounds me that no one in the USAF defended the F-22, in spite of its total domination of any air-combat engagement it has entered. To put it in perspective one on my former church members was a Marine during Korea, his younger brother wrote and asked his Marine brother which service he should join,,,,,,,"Join the Air Force, they're the only ones not doing anything over here".

My point is the Air Force is one of the few places in the military where there are lots of opportunities for women to succeed, which they have, and in the process the service finds many of the non-combat leadership roles filled by women, nice women, smart women, well organized women, in a military that is bending over backward to promote women, the Air Force wins the prize. So there is this politically correct, overly sensitive psyche, that will over-flow into other "offended" groups, and "welcome the "victims" of discrimination????? of every stripe, the only group who will be excluded from this preferential treatment will be those "horrible, bigoted, Christians", who defend the second amendment, personal liberty, and Biblical values such as traditional marriage, they are on a "witch hunt", they have been very successful, and who will question their sensitivity??????

We do have solutions the Afghans could use.

But, I admit the Mil-17 is not a bad solution for them. But if that is the solution they want over our own...then they can buy it. Not the US taxpayer, and particularly, IMHO, not at this time and not for this Afghani administration.

I agree in Principle with the Caveat That if The US does not have it then we offer something from one of our close partner allies like the UK for Example.
In the Case Of Afghanistan the Attack Hip need would be reduced once the LAS A29 Super Tucano is delivered assuming no more finagling in 2015. As yet however it seems to me that if The Chinook is not available the Retiring USMC SeaKnights could be a option particularly as Ospreys Squadrons grow and push the SeaKnights out of service.

Sounds like a...pardon the pun...watered down COTS version of ASDS.

The ASDS was a good concept vessel, but stretched the limits of underwater technology for that type of vessel, particularly in battery power. It was a larger vessel and carried the two naval operators (drivers) and up to 16 SEALs. This one sounds like a 2+6 version of the same.

Being smaller, it will be able to go further on the same type of charging system. Another of the real issues the ASDS faced was the ability for the vessel to take the stress associated with its missions for prolonged periods and through many cycles. Most of these COTS vessels are not meant to be exercised like a SpecOps vessel will be.

I hope it works out. The SEALs and SpecOps need a dry sumbersible, allowing LI/LO capabilitiy to the sub to ferry them from the SSNs or SSGNs to shore in such a way that those billion dollar+ cost vessels can stand off at good distance and in good depth.

Yes, FORBIN, USNS Flint is out of service as of August 2013.

The USS Flint, AE-32 was one of eight Kilauea Class ammunition supply ships. It was launched in 1970 and commissioned in 1971. It was decommissioned in 1995 and transferred to the Military Sea Lift Command and became USNS Flint, T-AE-32, and was operated by a largely civilian crew, with a small US Navy detachment conducting communications and operations. The Kilauea Class displaced about 10,000 tons, were 564 ft. long, had an 81 ft. beam and a 39 ft. draft. They cruised at 20 knots.

(Story by Military Sealift Command). She was taken out of service after 42 years.

Her specific role has been assumed by the newer, larger USNS Alan Shepherd, T-AKE-3, which was launched in 2006 and commissioned in 2007. The USNS Alan Shepherd is one of fourteen new Lewis and Clark Class dry cargo replinishement ships the US constructed from 2006 through 2012. They cruise at 20 knots, diplace over 40,000 tons, are 690 ft. long, have a beam of 106 ft. and a draft of 30 ft.
