Now THAT is a heart warming and inspiring story.

God bless that young man and his dog...and God bless those who made their reuniting possible.

No Offence, but this the height inhumanity & hypocrisy, that at one place drones are killing 1000s of innocent people including women, kids like animal/Israel is also killing 1000s of innocent people like animal & here they are reuniting an animal with the his man.

So pathetic.

God Bless to those innocent people who lost their lives by Drones & Israeli cowards.

No offense you say? The entire idea and posting of your comment is an offense and you know it.

You ar interjecting your own political diatrebe onto a thread completely unrelated to the things you discuss to try and discredit and belittle a US serviceman and his dog, which dog saved his life numerous times...and then you call that event pathetic and expect us not to be offended?

Bravo Sierra.

Take your political BS and your desire to offend and attack a story about an IED dog being renuited with his handler, and go to some other forum where they deal in the type of screed your are posting. This is not the place for it.

Nothing political was said about this man, or his dog. Yet you feel the need to come in and interrupt, offend, and say such things. I have news for you...posting such garbage will not solve the problem you have.

If you start a thread here on SD about the "Evils" of US Drones attacks...which is purely a political statement, you will find it does not last long here. SD is not about such politically motivated topics.

You could start one about the military issues related to drones, from the US and other countries (and we have several threads about that here on SD), and would do just fine. But you cross the line, and violate the forum rules, when you start trying to call it "evil," and then attack a compeltely unrelated story about a dog to drive your politicas home. I will call you on that...every time.

I don’t have to say anything now, as your reply says it all ..... you don’t have any words to justify human killings .....

No one here has tried to justify killing...however, in war, sometimes it is necessary. As tragic and sad as that is.

But that is not what was being discussed, not at all. YOU brought that in, interjected it into a story about a man who was reunited with his dog.

That is what is pathetic...and rather than apologize for rudely interjecting your own political bias into it...you defend it and continue it. Sad, really.

Again, simply take it somewhere else.

As an American & Iowan I'm offended by your remarks. You apparently do not know the full circumstances of this reunion.

I think time pass has got little bit carried away and I'm sure he does not mean to categorise all 300 million Americans into one statement

Nowhere has anyone even supported the drone attacks or even commented on them, certainly no one has ever justified them here so I don't even know where this has come from!? and plus I like this forum because of its non-political views, we are here because we like to discuss military and military matters only

And for the sake of the drone issue here is the reality

the drones actually used to take off from a secret CIA run air base in Balochistan, the Pakistani government was involved so the blame lies with firstly with the spineless Pakistan leaders before anyone else

After the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers the air base was taken back from the CIA and no drones fly from there, US was given 6 days to vacate the base, infact in the first 6 months of the this year I count only two drone strikes compared to 130+ in 2010

Shamsi airbase is now under the control of the Pakistan army and has been since end of 2011, the last C17 Globemaster left there on 11th Dec 2011, drone attacks have almost ceased

Also now Pakistan high court has deemed drone strike illegal and violation of sovereignty and has authorised PAF to guard the border, this was issued on 13th May of this year

So we first must under the situation behind the drones before making any statements, I hope this explain the drone issue

Here is a picture of Pak Army who have control of the base, drones have ceased attacks since then, so no more misunderstanding of drones please

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMDSF) ships, landing ship tank JS Shimokita (LST 4002); destroyer JS Atago (DDG 177) and helicopter destroyer JS Hyuga (DDH 181) departed Pearl Harbor May 20 following a five-day port visit.

During the visit JMSDF sailors conducted wreath-laying ceremonies at the USS Arizona Memorial, National Cemetery of the Pacific, Makiki Cemetery and Ehime-Maru Memorial, and offered ship tours, while senior leaders conducted office calls with local military counterparts.

"These opportunities to renew relationships with our JMSDF counterparts are always valuable and rewarding," said Adm. Cecil D. Haney, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet. "The stop of the ships here and our frequent operations together are reflective of the strong relationship between the U.S. Navy and JMSDF that is such an important underpinning of the U.S.-Japan alliance."

These are all very major capital units of the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force, and represent a significant force and capability making this visit during their exercises.

The Atago, DDG-177 is the Japanese equivalent of a Arleigh Burke Flight IIA destroyer. They have two of these that displace right at 10,000 tons and carrier 96 VLS cells for Standard anti-air missiles, including for Ballistic Missile Defense.

The Hyuga, DDH-181 is one of two Japanese aircraft carriers that are dedicated helicopter carriers for leading Anti-submarine warfare (ASW)task forces, or acting as the flagship of any large JMSDF task force. The Japanese ar ein the proicess of builfgin two more, significantly larger such vessels.

The Landing Ship Shimokita (LST 4002) is one of three LPD type vessels that carrier helicopters on their flight deck and in their hanger, and have a well deck to carry LCAC air cushion landing craft or other landing craft.

The "DDH" and "LST" are very much LHD!

Well, the Osumi class are LPD-like because of their well deck, but not the Hyuga.

They are bigger than the Osumi class, but they have no well deck and so you can't really give them a "dock" designation.

You might say an LHA...but they are not that big and do not carry that many troops and equipment. They are really oriented towards rotary aviation, and particularly towards ASW.

CVH is probably a better designation for them, but due to the Japanese constitution, they make a politicval DDH designation to show them as replacement for the earlier classes that really were more detroyer like, with a large landing pad and hanger on the aft end. The Hyuga Class are really full, flat deck carriers.
