US Airforce wants to increase buy of F-15EX to 30 in 2025.

I really wonder if 104 F-15EX's will be the final number? I could see the US attempting to purchase a much larger number given F-35 troubles and that NGAD is still a ways out. If they could increase production to around 50 aircraft per year, the fleet could grow large quite quickly.

In 2020 US air force had 241 F-15C/D Eagle models and 218 F-15E Strike Eagles. They need to replace at least the C/D and possibly some E before NGAD is available. Cannot see F-35 replacing them, they even scratching their head to find something to replace F-16...

Some units will just go without fighter at all... even 104 will not replace their numbers. Last year they was talk about transforming fighters units into new drones units.

What a shitshow. And people joke about the Russians and the Sukhoi Su-57. Boeing cannot even deliver a rewarmed F-15 properly.

Boeing F-15EX deliveries slip at least six months after quality errors

Friday, Jun 9
WASHINGTON — Production mistakes and quality problems with Boeing’s F-15EX Eagle II program have caused the fighter’s delivery schedule to slip by at least six months, which could endanger its ability to meet key deadlines, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a new report.
...
Several production problems delayed the delivery of those six fighters in lot 1B
...
Those delays were mainly caused by what office referred to as “supplier quality problems related to a critical component in the forward fuselage assembly that ensures safety of flight.”
...
Boeing also mis-drilled windscreen installation holes on four F-15EXs in this lot because the company used tooling with a design error, GAO said. Program officials told auditors the problem was caught before more planes were mis-drilled, and that Boeing will redrill the holes on affected aircraft before starting production on the second lot of fighters.
...
Boeing spokeswoman Deborah VanNierop confirmed Friday that the only F-15EXs so far delivered to the Air Force are the two test aircraft that were delivered in spring 2021, which were considered lot 1A.

More than two years later, the service is still waiting for the next batch of fighters.
...
The report noted that program officials thought Boeing could deliver the six F-15EXs in that lot between May and July, with two delivered per month. But Boeing and the federal Defense Contract Management Agency warned that more delays could occur, GAO said.
...
GAO also warned that cybersecurity vulnerabilities remain the F-15EX’s primary vulnerability. The fighter’s design was derived from versions of the F-15 that were sold to foreign militaries, GAO said, and weren’t designed to meet the Air Force’s own cybersecurity requirements.
...
The Air Force is now planning to buy 104 F-15EXs, and requested money to buy 24 of the fighters in the proposed fiscal 2024 budget.

Like the Superhornet, the US Congress will buy F-15EX despite the USAF not wanting it. The Airforce leadership has clearly stated that they prefer additional spending on NGAD, not F-15s.
What a shitshow. And people joke about the Russians and the Sukhoi Su-57.
F-15EX = 6-month delay, Su-57 = 10+ years in delay. That's why we laugh at it. But to some degree I have to agree, Boeing is always taking advantage of the US taxpayer. They have no problem delivering F-15SA variants to other countries but as soon as the USAF buys something, problems appear.

There is no 10 years of delay in Su-57 program.

The fact is it took less time from Su-57 first prototype flight to first delivered combat aircraft than for F-22 or F-35.

First T-50 prototype flight in 2010, introduction of Su-57 into service in 2020. 10 years.
First YF-22 prototype flight in 1990, introduction of F-22 into service in 2005. 15 years.
First X-35 prototype flight in 2000, introduction of F-35 into service in 2015. 15 years.

So you tell me which program had the fastest development.

People also laugh at Su-57 delivery rate. But Boeing cannot seem to deliver F-15EX any faster. They delivered 2 aircraft since 2021. That is one a year. And it isn't even really a new aircraft.

As for NGAD there is zero chance it will enter service before 2030. Where is the flying prototype even? And in the meantime hundreds of F-15 airframes will be retired with no replacement. So I can't say I blame Congress for pushing the F-15EX.

The Su-57 in service are still basically prototypes. The Su-57M will be the actual production aircraft comparable to the F-22/F-35, when that enters service, we can compare the time from the first flight to delivery of an operational combat aircraft.

That is no excuse since F-22 and F-35 also had multiple upgrades. F-35 was supposed to be on Block 4 right now. Where they replace radar, avionics, and cockpit. Su-57M is supposed to add electromechanical actuators to flight surfaces, newer software, and a new cockpit basically. Also supposed to add new engines eventually but who knows when those will show up.
