U.S. Air Force using augmented reality to train fighter pilots in preparation to fight against PLA --- especially J-20.

Looks very useful for pilot flight operations and simulated dogfight training. But wouldn't using the augmented reality on jet trainers be much more suitable and closer to reality than this prop-driven plane?

I mean, seriously couldn't believe that a J-20 would fly at low-subsonic speeds in a dogfight unless absolutely necessary. Also the F/A-18 clipping the J-20, lol

Using the augmented reality on the prop-driven plane looks more useful as a paid tour for military fans from the public to experience how air combat would look like than actual training for novice pilots per se.

I watched the whole propaganda disguised as "journalistic reporting" with WTF, and lol at the same time. The level of anti-China drivel that's coming out from mainstream American media not even shying on open declaration of war against China is very sad and predictable to see at the same time.

This is my last political comment on this subject and on this thread since it's strictly created for U.S. military news, reports etc...

They are probably using the prop plane mostly to do basic tests, adjustment and development where you don't need the flight characteristics of a fighter just yet, just a similar enough cockpit view and arrangement.

A civilian prop plane is probably easier and cheaper to come by than a jet trainer but there aren't many out there with a tandem cockpit, bubble canopy and clean nose and wings.

The difference is that one is used for transport and the other has a bunch of explosives strapped to its back.

There were cargo Ekranoplanes though

It is useful for the intercept flights you see that happen very frequently in the Chinese ADIZ. It has been proven from experience at the Constant Peg program that pilots who have trained with actual enemy aircraft are less anxious when they actually meet them in real life situation. Obviously they can't get a real J-20 to train, but this is really the next best thing.

Does the PLAAF and PLANAF have similar equipment, platforms and settings to deal with enemy aircrafts from the US and her "allies"?
