M69-420 General Dynamics 2022 Light Tank.JPG

Washington, General Dynamics reveal that they're to begin construction of the US Armies new Light Tank. Assembly will commence in November of this year, the first new vehicle of this decade. The vehicle will feature a new chassis design with GDLS programs to reduce the risks, the turret is "largely new and with different materials than normal" company director Kevin Vernagus says. The internals will supposedly feel similar to that of a Abrams in "look, feel and controls", most feedback was about "maintainability" to do with "quick-release pins instead of bolts for the skirts". The US Army plans to have 504 of the new vehicle to be built by 2035 putting the vehicle in procurement for 30 years.

It was a given contract for General dynamics that presented a new chassis. Read that's it's only competitor was based on the M8 Armored Gun System (AGS), that old design was made to replace the Sheridan light tank a long time ago and lost to General Dynamics.

Don't know if they are using aluminium alloy based armor like on the m8 based prototype ?

The M8 had an actual tank chassis and this is a highly troubled IFV chassis with the turret of a much heavier tank on top.
It uses the same chassis as the British Ajax and you can read online about what a shitshow that was.
The M8 was the much better option.

Based on the AJAX ? That thing will weight over 40 tons ! Light tank ??? M8 was less than 25 tons... You cannot load 2 of them at 40-42 tons each in a C-17... better to carry an M1A1 than one of these...
