Curious why the threw the word hypersonic in there if it is some combined cycle engine for up to Mach 5 supposedly. Don't the Americans already have hypersonic combined cycle projects like China does? They would probably have them in service already.

No it is not a write off. It’s a repair job at depot. Yes it does happen.
Nothing happened. The only difference is that the USAF is open about incidents where other nations don’t bother. This is a fairly common type of accident in aviation in general.

Example, the worst year for the russians was 2014, with 6 military aircraft related accidents, for usa 2020 had 8 accident.
Maybe the 2014 was the teething year for the russians, and the 2020/21 teeth loosing twilight year for the usa.
Not exactly the fairest comparison given the discrepancy in number of aircrafts
