It wasn't about to be cancelled, but they had paused it for reassessment due to various factors, costs, capabilities, necessity etc etc.
Well all they had to do was name it after Trump to get it approved! Not a big deal haha!

The crying over Boeing is overblown imo. NGAD is designed such that govt owns IP and can contract out and compete any components to other companies. I.E. its totally possible for a scenario where Boeing flails in software and another firm like Lockheed could win that contract.
The competition likely came down to more so to design and USAF thought Boeing had the better one. Boeing's also been in the program since the beginning and there hasn't really been news of them falling behind in the stages up till now and they've made a lot capital investments into mfg facilities for combat aircraft in the mean time. Im in wait and see mode tbh
