ROC's seat in UN and the permanent membership in UNSC were succeeded by PRC. Similarly Russia inherited from USSR the permanenut membership in UNSC.

To kick Russia out of UNSC it would be a fundamentally different matter.
It is all up to general assembly vote how they interpret succession of state and whether Russia is a legal successor state to Soviet Union. Ukraine had 'legal equality' to Russia in Soviet Union, so you can argue any of the ex-Soviet republic is also a legal successor, why Russia, because they are the biggest of the ex-Soviet republics and kept most of Soviet nuclear arsenal? They believe PRC is the legal successor to ROC seat (even though KMT still exists on ROC) because PRC was bigger in size/population and had nuclear weapons, so it's all open to interpretation. I'm not saying it's going to pass the vote, I'm saying it's plausible to put it as a draft resolution using the illegitimate successor of states argument.

I'm the one that almost always roots for the underdog.

But you're not rooting for the 'underdog'... you're rooting for NATO.

Or does the bigger picture not matter?

Putin has also inadvertently given hope to the Taiwanese.

lolz, if this is "hope" for Taiwan, then what does despair look like?

Ukraine's only 'hope' the whole time was direct NATO intervention, just like Taiwan.

Russia took over all of the debt of the CCCP, so it was not only the benefits .

Ukraine was complety debt free at 91.

If UNSC can survive 40 years with WanWanese as a permanent member, I'm sure UN will be fine without Russia as a permanent member.

Perhaps under UNSC reforms, Russia can return in future a permanent member alongside India, Japan, Germany, Brazil, and South Africa in an expanded UNSC, but none of them gets the veto.
But even if Russia was kicked out of the UN, what difference does it make? The UN just becomes a glorified council of Europe based in New York. America has shown it is prepared to invade countries with or without UN authorisation. Getting authorisation to do so without Russia and China would just make it a priests blessing.

Russia may just make it's own version of the UN and get allied or neutral members to join it. It would all become a waste of time and a farce.

I'm the one that almost always roots for the underdog. If that makes me 'little' to you then I'm proud to be 'little' :)
Well, there's going to be very little in life that makes you happy then, because underdog successes are for movies. You can settle for little things like a 19 year old Russian POW saying he misses his family while Russia takes city after city.
Putin made an unnecessary mistake and he has inadvertently united a fractured west.
No, he traded temporary economic pain for permanent geographical gain. A good trade any day. Unless you mean that he made a mistake by going too easy instead of fighting with the full force of Russia's armed forces, Su-57, Tu-160, Tu-22M, FAOB, etc... in which case I agree.
And I'm sure the planners in Beijing are anxiously looking at this war because Putin has also inadvertently given hope to the Taiwanese.
Unfortunately, I cannot discuss that here with you due to moderator instructions. Go to the right thread, tag me, and I will shred you there.
Samson vs Goliath...
Go outside and step on a bug. Then another. Then one more. Keep going till one kills you instead. That's how often that happens in real life.
