Anyone think the west providing hundreds of atm and manpads will come to bite them if they end up falling into the wrong hands? Do they have age-out passcodes on them to prevent unauthorized usage?

Saw on twitter that Russian forces have surrounded all major ukrainian cities. Is this an exaggeration? Afaik they have only surrounded kherson and mariupol, kiev half surrounded and kharkiv still not surrounded
Ukraine has a lot more large cities than that. But the two largest are Kiev and Kharkiv.
The amount of cities they either sweeped or encircled is quite significant. It hasn't even been a week yet.

too bad they won't, there is always the option to use thermobaric if they are so called losing. I think its a perfect time for Turkey to start advancing the FSA to Syria during this conflict while they are distracted.
Russia predeployed some air assets, including Tu-22M3, to Syria just before the conflict started. Remember Shoygu even went there?

Finally the Russians bombed a TV station. What took them so long? Enemy communications, especially the media should be the first to go! That building is a legitimate dual-use enemy infrastructure in a war. That is according to NATO doctrine. Among the first things to get bombed in Yugoslavia and Iraq are the TV stations. Humanitarianism be damned, this is war! Information is a most powerful weapon in any war. Allowing the enemy to communicate effectively is akin to self-sabotage.
To be honest I am a bit puzzled at this. While the TV tower is a legitimate target, the Russians emitted a warning ahead of time that they would bomb the Secret Service HQ in Kiev, hours before the strike is supposed to happen. And they would not warn before a strike close to a public park like in the case of the tower? It might be a case of poor coordination but still seems kind of weird. It is not like the tower would escape if they warned people beforehand either. Besides the tower still seems to be standing. So it looks like they didn't even use the proper style of munition to take it down.

I understand Putin's intentions of trying not to make life too hard for his fellow Slav brothers. But in general, the Western Ukrainian populace just won't give a damn. Losing Crimea to the Russians, and 7 years of being told that Russia is the big bad evil invading Eastern Ukraine has made them very anti-Russia. This is in addition to historical fascist ideology prevalent in Western Ukraine. Even if Russia fights with its hands tied, those hateful Ukrainians just won't care. They will never accept the Russians as benevolent liberators.
It is kind of early to know what they plan to do.

There were many videos of Ukrainian civilians protesters blocking roads, and telling the Russians to: "F off back to Russia!", followed by "Glory to Ukraine!". The Russian convoy then just meekly backed off and drove onto another route, to the cheers of the protesters. I would bet that those 'protesters' must have informed the position of those Russian convoys to Ukrainian AT squads. Definitely via regular 4G communication. Russian soldiers paid with their lives for being kind to these 'protesters'. The 4G networks in Ukraine needs to be taken out ASAP!
To be honest I kind of agree. But the thing is the Russians seems to be snooping all the communications in Ukraine right now. That is what I got from a previous announcement from them on TASS anyway. If that is true, those people are just exposing themselves and the Russians are basically making their job identifying collaborators or partisans for future arrest a lot easier once they gain control of the power structure.

I'm sure there is some multiple ways Russia can be excluded from the UNSC using off hand tactics. Whatever way they try, it will immediately isolate China and a multitude of other countries.
The UN will just become another expensive government building in New York, able to pass whatever resolutions it wants but it won't change anything internationally. A UNSC condemnation of the Ukraine war without Russia, China means the exact same as the US government just making the announcement. The UN is powerless without it's members.
It was one of the reasons China was eventually readmitted to the UN. There's no point in the UN existing if the biggest country isn't part of it.
There is an historic precedent for this. The League of Nations expelled the Soviet Union when they started the Winter War. This made the League of Nations basically a defunct and pointless organization.

I remember reading some time ago that a bunch of ISIS/Al-qaeda types fled to Ukraine to fight for the Ukrainians as revenge for the Russian involvement in Syria.

Far right: Russia is a mixed economy with strong state ownership and welfare/healthcare expenditures typical of a country with their GDP per capita. Not far right.

Authoritarian: yes.

Ultranationalist: Russia has constitutionally guaranteed rights for minorities including language and cultural protection. Not ultranationalist.

Dictatorial power: Putin is lawfully elected each time and in this particular conflict is executing constitutional authority as commander in chief to authorize a short term military operation. Btw it's only day 5 and US law would've allowed Biden to authorize up to 60 days of military engagement without consulting Congress. Not dictatorial.

Forcible suppression of opposition: Russia allows far left parties like Communist Party of Russia to hold 2nd most seats in the Duma in direct opposition to the ideology of United Russia. Not forcible suppression of opposition.

Strong regimentation of society and economy: don't know what that means, maybe they mean state intervention and cult of personality. Nope there is no requirement to join any youth organization praising Putin.

So it's 1/6. Hmm.
I got to applaude a very fast and thorough response. Respect.
Me. I'm a lot more lazy.
