MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu reported to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin that the alert teams of the command posts of the Strategic Missile Force, the Northern and Pacific Fleets switched to enhanced combat alert, the Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Army General Sergey Shoigu reported to Russian Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin that in accordance with his decree, the alert teams of the command posts of the Strategic Missile Force, the Northern and Pacific Fleets and the military command of long-range aviation had switched to enhanced combat alert," the ministry said.

The Russian leader said at a meeting with Defense Minister Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov in the Kremlin on February 27 that "top officials of leading NATO countries also allow themselves to make aggressive pronouncements towards our country" and thus ordered to put the Russian Army’s deterrence forces on high alert. The Kremlin meeting took place amid Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. Moscow commenced the operation in response to a request from the heads of the Donbass republics for assistance.

The Russian strategic deterrence forces are intended to deter aggression against Russia and its allies and rout an aggressor in a war with the use of various armaments, including nuclear weapons. They comprise the strategic offensive and defensive forces.

The Russian strategic offensive forces armed with intercontinental missile and airborne systems are based on the strategic nuclear forces that embrace the Strategic Missile Force. They also comprise strategic conventional forces as dual-purpose troops: units and formations of strategic and long-range bombers, and also submarines, surface ships and Russian naval missile-carrying aircraft with long-range conventional precision weapons.

The Russian strategic defensive forces are based on combat-ready troops of the Aerospace Force that integrates the missile attack early warning system, the space control system, the anti-ballistic missile, space and air defense systems.

How does this support your point in any shape?
That rivalery and not so benevolent acts happens between even close allies. Like US spying on Merkel and so on.
Discussing the more shitty things that the PRC has done would get very political and heated super fast. So pass.
Suffice to say I don't find China's track record particularly impressive. Maybe a tiny bit better than the US one but that isn't saying much.

LMAO didn't some fake news claim Valery Gerasimov got fired? This is either 4D chess from Putin to make them look like lying fools, or shows the limitations of Russian information management.

Also, couldn't China's own intelligence experts have made sure that Russian statement was true or not? Likewise to what President Biden has claimed all along of an impending Russian invasion? Having a capable and robust intelligence operation is vitally important in winning a war. It's a bit naive for any country's leader to rely upon another leader's "trust me bro" spiel if the stakes or the consequences of the actions have global impact and dire consequences.

I mean, the U.S. was so convinced and has been proven to be correct in their intelligence assessment that Russia was going to attack and even if their dates was off by a couple of days, the attack culminated in the month it said Russia was going to commerce an invasion.

So am just curious just how reliable, robust, the PLA intelligence if at all? Because having an excellent intelligence is of supreme vital importance to the area we all know what am referring about.

@Overbom @gelgoog @ansy1968 @FairAndUnbiased @taxiya @Phead128 @solarz any comments on China's intelligence capabilities or lack thereof?

Timeline of Chinese evacuation:

This is an intelligence failure! Even

that they had plans to evacuate citizens long long long before China did. If Putin gave big hints to Xi during Olympics,

with China, and Chinese intelligence agency didn't do jack shit, then they really dropped the ball.

this was a very high risk maneuver though, because looking strong discourages foreign intervention, looking weak encourages it.

See Battle of Shanghai by KMT vs. Imperial Japan. KMT didn't resist hard enough and was written off as a lost cause even by imperialist sponsors.
Yes, it is very very risky, I agree, and I even stated that in one of my previously posts.

However, Russia is a large nuclear power with a huge land mass and a traditionally very tenacious people. I think the war/operations of Putin is more of a complex geopolitical game. He saw his opportunities:
-> he saw Biden and Europe's willingness in NOT sending NATO troops to confront him in Ukraine.
-> he saw the US huge inflation problem, unprecedented debt level, as well as the oceans of printed dollars that is aching for aggressive quantitative tightening.
-> he saw forces and potentials in Europe for a right-leaning, away-from-internationalism-and-back-to-nationalism trend.
-> he saw China's assertiveness and ambitions both in the maritime Indo-Pacific as well as the Eurasian overland OBOR.
-> he saw the divided America, with a powerful internal voice for a neo-isolationism.
He saw all of these, and he dared to take the risk.

A great man he is, indeed.
