So I think I figured out what's going on.

Putin invaded Ukraine to show everyone what happens when Russia's redline is crossed. People can't figure out the objective of this invasion because there is no objective, or more accurately, the military objective is secondary and can change depending on the situation. The primary objective is to show all of Russia's neighbors: this is what will happen if you try to join NATO.

The Chinese proverb for this is to kill a chicken to share the monkeys. Unfortunately in this case, Ukraine volunteered to be the chicken.

This also explains what the US' objective is, which is to counter Putin's objective by portraying the Russia military as backwards and incompetent. The US doesn't care what the actual situation is in Ukraine, so long as they can spin the result into Russia suffering heavy damage due to Ukrainian resistance. This will bolster not only the Ukrainians but also other countries neighboring Russia that may consider joining NATO.

So the primary objective of both US and Russia are non-military. Some might ask why the Russians are silent then. Well, maybe they're not actually silent. It's quite possible that the social media giants are heavily filtering what we see and read. For example, @panzerfeist1 mentioned that YouTube is not allowing the upload of videos that contradict the Western narrative. In this day and age, people should stop being naive about what they read and hear.
That strategy is starting to fail, as facts on the ground increasing deviates from what's presented on the internet. Note Russians have cleverly left power and internet intact to the cities which allow the common people to take footages, many which contradict what the propaganda machine is showing.

I put it as: unfortunately fake news cannot frontally penetrate T-72B3M's main armour.

just out of curiosity what are the comparison of the speed of russian advancement to US in Iraq War?
In Desert Storm, for instance, we bombed them for 42 days straight before going in. Here the Russian objective is different. They are trying to keep most of the army intact and just change the commanders to pro-Russian ones. They therefore have try not to kill too many civilians and engage in battles that kill too many soldiers, with the hard core fighters being the exception.

Could also be that Putin wants to leave a long political legacy instead of watching the russian empire crumble under him. With this move ukraine, belarus and central asia will be under russia politically even if the economy goes down. Then they can slowly rebuild the economy. If Ukraine had joined NATO, russia won't be able to recover politically for a hundred years.

If they keep blowing up bridges, where are they going to flee?
Blowing bridges is a poor choice especially Ukraine lacks large transport helicopters by now, and resupplying pockets of Ukrainian forces on the wrong side of river would become very difficult.

Also, Russians can easily set up pontoon bridges.

It's going to look extremely bad on paper, GDP will drop below a trillion but I suspect life will still be quite fine materially after the initial layoff shock. Russia is self sufficient in many ways
@sndef888 bro the Russian are capable of eating bitterness, During WW2 the toughness and gritness of the Russian is what defeated the Wehrmacht. I think the revisionist in the West had forgotten that on their own peril. From Alexander Mercouris " You don't march on Moscow and you don't Bluff Beijing".
