I think it'll be a Belarus style puppet state in Ukraine. If not that he'll settle for the Russian areas liberated and the rest becoming a demilitarised, non NATO state.

If he pulls it off it'll be a massive boost to Russian psyche. It's more about that than any economic or military gain.
Psyche don’t pay the bills!

Ukrainian game plan is to make the war so unpopular in Russia domestically that they have to stop the war.
The fallback plan is to make it seem like Ukraine will hold out for a very long time so the rest of the world will be able to either A)intervene or B)support Ukraine enough that they can actually turn Ukraine into Afghanistan.

Hence the insane propaganda war happening.

But the fundamental goal for Ukraine is to play for time and not capitulate. Russia's on the clock (like all attacking forces) so Ukraine is trying to run out the clock.
Russian people want this to be a quick campaign with the Ukrainian government overthrown and the arrest/elimination of the Nazi forces.

The Ukrainian government has spent the last 8 years demonising Russians, banning the Russian language, killing ethnic Russians. Why would the Russian public be sympathetic to them? It would be like America hoping Chinese people turn on their government with all the racist propaganda they've been putting out.

As for turning Ukraine into Afghanistan we'll wait and see. Ukrainians aren't Afghan tribals who've lived through war all their lives, most of them have jobs like accountant or software programmer. They seem to talk the talk a lot, we'll see how tough they really are.

What the Russian government was asking for was entirely reasonable: (1) neutral Ukraine (2) compliance with the Minks agreement.

The Russians for more than 20 Years have been trying to communicate with the narcissistic fanatics who run the Anglo-American Empire

The West really doesn't understand Russian demands. And the misunderstanding of the Chinese is even greater.
Let me correct you: The West really doesn't WANT TO understand Russian demands. And their unwillingness to understand the Chinese is even greater.

These people are ideologoues / far-right imperialist nutjobs. There is no point in reasoning with them. They operate in fantasy land of global hegemony were Russia and/orChina and any other opposition have either submitted themselves to them or they have seized to exist.
