Sorry but this is a stupid argument. Say, China is invaded by the US coalition - who in their right mind would agree to "hey, surrender, we just want to change your politics"? You can hate Ukraine all you want but it is a completely understandable position.
Even if he didn't really played much of a role, he picked a great time to give Putin a call because people would ASSUME he played a big role and Putin won't mind because it doesn't cost him anything.
Optics wise basically you have US and all the other western countries raging impotently on the side while Xi and Putin are like "hmmmm say, shell we give peace another try then?" It shows who's boss in the new world order.

no shit. china basically only country that can help russia now. like they have enough foreign reserve to survive for a year but they still need someone to buy them oil and gas and other natural resource in which Russian heavily depend on. if xi says fuck you then it might be harder time for Russia. i think this is also why putin waited after the Olympic to attack.
I doubted what everyone was saying about the recapture of the airport by Ukrainian forces. The official confirmation for me was in the morning that the Russians were still in possession of the airport, even in the midst of inferiority.

If the situation is daring without issue... I would prefer to save my citizens or kids and be hanged than to make them suffer for nothing. Most of the time, when politicians want to drag it until the end, they are in another country looking at the situation or in a nice heated, full of food bunker with wallet full of money and ready to go.

Yea, makes no sense to tell Ukraine to give up a pointless fight and 'save lives', when same people would likely say China should keep on fighting Japan to the bitter end regardless of the human costs..... and plenty of people accuse KMT-ROC of being dirty/corrupt/US puppet too.
