The Pentagon is advising Zelensky to withdraw the 100k Ukrainian forces in the Donbas to the cities. I doubt it’ll happen as if they move they would get bombed by Russian assets.

“The Pentagon recommends Zelensky to withdraw troops from the eastern front

This is reported by TG channels close to the Zelensky administration. This is the second such recommendation in the last 2 weeks.

"It is recommended to withdraw the troops to the second defensive redoubt in order to use large cities as fortresses. The US military believes that Poltava/Dnipro/Zaporizhia will stop the Russian army and cause serious damage, and the tactics [operating with the retention of Donbass] of the General Staff will repeat the fate of Mariupol with a difference in scale. If a group of 20 thousand was surrounded and subjected to methodical destruction within a month, then the 100 thousandth army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the eastern front can be surrounded within two weeks, and then the same scenario will happen as in Mariupol."

Use of chemical weapons designed to kill or cause serious injury to combatants would be a violation of numerous treaties to which Russia is a signatory. The gain seems minuscule for the resulting blow back. Logically the best option to smoke them out is to literally smoke them out, by using tear gas or particulate agents that doesn’t maim or kill in themselves but makes the air progressively more unbreathable.

What kind of chemicals they are going to use in this situation? Tear gas?
Chlore go down in trench and tunnel... if you have ever breath chlore emanations ( got a spill of muriatic acid home) you get yourself out quite fast.

Connecting exhaust of some tanks and letting them run...you make them run rich for them to smell a lot. Maybe they will choose to die at this rate if it's gentle.

Pretty much what I've been saying since the start. It's too late now though, soldiers in fortified positions will be heavily exposed to artillery and air support if they withdraw.

Withdrawing to cities just means America wants to maximise civilian casualties as much as possible. Also they've suggested ethnic Russian cities. They've even adopted the Ukrainian position of using ethnic Russian civilians as human shields. America truly is an evil country.

It's also strange that they're announcing it publically. Are they getting frustrated at the Ukrainians not listening to them?

If it's border town on the Dnieper, Russian can do a public ultimatum and not entering the city. Letting one week pass to let citizens out and just leveling them. Polatava is half Mariupol size/population. will be hard but they will be encircled and starved.

That emanation is hydrogen chloride gas, which certainly sounds a lot like chlorine gas to any observer.

Chlorine gas is the original modern chemical weapon first used in WWI. Incidentally, little known in the west is the fact that the Germans experimentally used chlorine gas on Russian troops before they ever deployed to trench warfare in Belgium, from whence it gained the reputation of horror.

So probably not a good idea if blow back is to be minimized.
