I suspect the Russians are no longer really interested in taking any large Ukrainian cities. They want to make these cities uninhabitable to drive out the inhabitants.

This genocide narrative is jumping through several hoops. It relies on the assumption that Russians are being deliberately slow in their offensive, which is ridiculous.

No, they are deliberately putting cities in range of bombardment without trying that hard to really take it. There is nothing ridiculous about it. Military tactics conform to the objective. The objective is not to take ground because they lack the manpower to do so. They shifted the objective from taking the cities to denying the use of the cities to the Ukrainians.

And don’t throw around the word genocide so flippantly. They west makes flippant use of the loaded term because the use of the term can be relied upon to rile up sensitive but unthinking public opinion. Denying the enemy use of his critical infrastructure is a essential and immemorial practice of war.

One thing is clear: as long as Russia occupies parts of Ukraine, all cooperation with Russia will be gradually reduced. Some things happened quickly, as you can see from the sanctions. Other things take longer, like the cooperation in the ISS or the oil and gas deliveries. You can't just turn off the gas tap, you would have to burn the extracted gas on the spot. All boreholes are now gradually being sealed until the last gas has been delivered in a year and a half.

After that, Russia is isolated like North Korea.
I just hope my fellow Americans don't hold this illusion. In most practical terms, I cannot put Russia and NK in same sentences. If you care to elaborate, I am willing to try to present my counter points.

As long as Putin is not regarded as committing atrocities by the third world, Russia would be only isolated by the western countries. And I think that is also a primary reason Russian execution in battlefields has been messy and convoluted. Putin does not want to give his audience any impression that he is committing atrocities against people. Given the current world reaction, he is not failing. Wake me up when India, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia et al. start to move to the opposite side.

We are far from that point now. And I don't see that happening any time soon.

Only in western MSM, Russia is isolated. If I would divide the world into 5-eyes (plus Japan and SK) , EU, China, ASEAN, India, Africa, ME, South America, Russia is so far isolated by the first 2 blocks.

you threw in ethnic cleansing earlier, so I just followed the train. Either way lets drop it.

I cant see the purpose of deliberately sieging a city to depopulate it, a civilian population eating food and constricted in its movement inside is better than outside where they can be further armed and mobilized against you.

How one can practically isolate country which essentially twice the size of US and being one of the largest exporter of oil and gas ? and let's not forget wheat and other products. Plus it borders so many countries that they will almost always be involved in any form of business.

and if China start heating things up in Pacific.. whoever in charge of USA and EU cannot deal with China without talking to Russia like how US and EU attempts to pressure China now.

cheap Russian oil and gas will always find buyer with caveat that the buyer might need to set up payment system which not convenient but may worth it. and people buying is not out of charity but actually needs them. If US dont want people to buy cheap Russian oil, they themselves have to offer cheaper oil, instead of threatening to sanction the country which wont solve targeted country's needs.

But anyway i will not continue posting about economics. let's go back to war.

It's just western delusion. They've gone into this economic war thinking Russia is the same as Syria or Iraq. There's already protests forming in every western country right now, if Putin decides to cut the gas off it'll descend to complete anarchy.

The recent Russian assaults in the Donbas over the past 48 hours have largely failed in every front. The Ukrainians apparently blew up a dam that forced the Donets River to overflow its banks, and there are videos showing the swelling waters trapping Russian armored vehicles, which were abandoned as a result. Still lots of reinforcements to come, but who knows if the Russians will ever pull off a decisive breakthrough in the east. This could be a slow, plodding advance that takes months, if the Russians last that long.

Can you share those videos? Would be a huge setback
