Well that would make a little bit of sense as to why they would even attempt this silly daring seemingly futile mission. I seen a few reports who say thousands of forces are still in Mariupol, that's why it makes no sense to me for them to try this unless there are extremely sensitive personnel that they were trying to extract.
If it's true, what a coup it would be for Russia to capture those guys. If Russian leadership has any brains left, they would make sure to take them alive and absolutely ensure they do not escape.
However im pretty sure they could escape by sea via helicopter or submarine or small boats without the Russians even noticing anyway.
So who knows
Does anyone think this incident seems strange? This guy is pro-Ukrainian and his sources say the Gov told them they had no information (his tweet was also on a Fox News). Now there is an RT article with the title.
Ukraine would pounce on any propaganda the moment they can but for whatever reason. They aren’t doing it for this one.
I think this could be a number of things. Either the Ukrainians are afraid of a Russian retaliation (unlikely), or the Ukrainian C&C is disorganised and they don't always know what they are doing.
The real C&C for Ukraine's military is NATO right now. They could have coordinated it with a local commander without getting everyone in Ukraine aware of what's going on.

Actually, he didn't go to West Point. He served as a ranger paratrooper in the Vietnam War, and later commanded the 101st Airborne Division and the XVIII Airborne Corps.
As far as I understood, the Ukrainians are asking for legacy Soviet equipment still in operation with former Warsaw Pact members in NATO. That includes tanks, planes, SAMs and artillery.
In case of unfamiliar but not too complex Western systems, I have no doubt that they are receiving training in Poland as we speak.
According to an article yesterday in the Guardian, Western countries have agreed to send Ukraine armored vehicles and artillery pieces. Interestingly, also coastal defense systems: I assume this means anti-ship missiles. General Keane was urging the Biden administration to give them Harpoons from day 1.

I think most high value targets have escaped. One of the downed Ukrainians said they had been conducting multiple helicopter sorties to Mariupol over the past few weeks. I think the one(s) that were downed were just ground soldiers armed with stingers who got lucky.
We'll have to see what turns up in the rubble.

Maybe it is related to the 2 ukr general that was sacked yesterday. The generals may have executed the raid on Belgorod with NATO without Elensky's authorization.
