Really? Because it looks a whole lot like whataboutery from Incel-y Putin fanbois and war crime apologists. Dredging up stuff from 1945 FFS! FAOD, it was a war crime then, and this is a war crime now.
It wasn't a war crime in WW2, nor is it one now. The last guy running your account claimed to be a lawyer, check with him what constitutes a war crime.

Can China not retaliate?
Not really much to retaliate about. The Americans are threatening China not to export stuff to Russia, they aren't actually doing anything.

This isn't actually a "red line" in the way the term was used during the cold war. Back then they were reasonably set so that nobody would cross them. Like no crossing the 17th parallel for US ground troops. This is just another meaningless threat.

Threats aren't going to work anymore.

I also want to grow wings and fly
"⚡️ Poll: 90% of Ukrainians believe Russia must pay for country's reconstruction after war.

According to the recent poll conducted by the Rating Group, a fifth of Ukrainians add that European countries & international organizations also must pay for rebuilding Ukraine’s economy."

I think win or lose it's eventually Russia that will help rebuilding Ukraine anyway. Like we see how NATO is doing, no sign yet of Ukraine accepted as EU member, they were apparently part of EU Energy union now so to keep lights on even Russia were to take Energodar or other power plant. Still Russia will do it.

No news in this conflict. Alexander Sachartschenko (DPR) issued the same order on 23.1.2015.

When fanatic followers of "isms" fight, the results are often times the same: No rules, no values, no mercy. All barriers fall.

If AZOV would attack a Russian town, they would probably act the same way. That does not reduce the guilt of the Russian decision now.

I have read enough articles and books about this stuff. And I had two grandpas who fought in WWII. Please be aware of what is gonna to happen: It is read easy, but it is bloody. If someone is not able to fight back (wounded, no ammunition, surrender, hiding) he will be shot anyhow. The one that murders this person - it is murder - will never forget the last moment of the life of this personal enemy. Maybe his cry, his anxiety, his face in horror. Yes, there might be some who like to kill. But there comes a time of peace therafter. And then the memory, the hard disk of every human, will play the same scene again and again.

Some IR theorists adopt an amoral view of international politics.

I think they would describe the tensions between the West and Russia that culminated in the invasion of Ukraine as an instance of a

: what one country perceives as a purely defensive measure, the other country may perceive as an offensive measure. Structural realists like Kenneth Waltz and John Mearsheimer consider it critical to their theory.

One pertinent example is the US installation of THAAD in South Korea. Described as a purely defensive measure by the US and South Korea, but condemned by China as a destabilizing move.
I already was well aware that some people perceive international relations in amoral 'pragmatic' or 'realistic' terms.
My post was written, however, in the context of the writers here who have taken a moral position on the war between Russia and Ukraine.
