Rumours on twitter that this was the video that got the second mercenary base hit:

There's been no confirmation from western sources or evidence from the Russians.

Whatever happened it's clear that the subreddit is now being managed as a CIA operation. Every few days someone with experience and a brain cell shows up and tells everyone that it's a stupid idea to go fight in Ukraine even if you have experience in Iraq/Afghanistan. They get deleted and downvoted while more people post encouraging each other to go to Ukraine. 90% of people seem to think they will be able to be medics when they go, apparently armies are 90% medics who watch while the 10% fight it out. Ukraine has conscripted all doctors in their country, I doubt they need any medics. The fact that western European countries made it illegal to travel to Ukraine to fight doesn't seem to have stemmed the numbers going there, and I don't think America has tried stopping anyone at all.

Putin could end this war tomorrow if he started dropping FOABs on west Ukrainian cities until Zelensky surrenders. Everyone knows that. But it seems he wants it to drag on. Whatever it costs to maintain the current position for Russia is going to be much less compared to the amount NATO is pumping into Ukraine to keep it floating, let alone the damage being done to the European economy from the sanctions.

Somehow NATO have turned this conflict between two countries into a Vietnam for themselves. Maybe China should just keep things as they are for a few months, or even a year? As long as China doesn't join in directly I doubt it'll make relations much worse. Soon America/Europe will start begging China for help again. If they start threatening China as they are trying to do now then put pressure on Taiwan.

I like how one of the posters went into this spiel about analyzing background noises to pinpoint the location, and it turned out the video had a geolocation tag on it. :D

For a small ship it sure packs a punch.
Post-war, when Russia recovers, it needs to the build a super-size Gorshkov Frigate to replace their aging destroyers and pack them with enough cells for the Kalibration missiles.
They're planning to do just that, with the 'Gorshkov-M'... a 7,000 ton "frigate".

MOSCOW, May 9. /TASS/. Russia plans to manufacture 12 upgraded Project 22350M frigates capable of carrying each up to 48 Kalibr, Oniks and Tsirkon cruise missiles, a source in the shipbuilding industry told TASS on Thursday.

"The lead vessel in this series is planned to be commissioned to the Navy in 2027," the source said.

According to the source, "a project plan for a vessel with a displacement of 7,000 tons and a capability of carrying up to 48 Kalibr, Oniks and Tsirkon cruise missiles will be finalized by the yearend."

"In all, 12 frigates of this class are planned to be manufactured, with 11 out of them to be commissioned to the customer within the frames of the new state arms procurement program," the source added.

TASS does not yet have an official confirmation of this information.

The Russian Navy currently has in its service the lead warship of the Project 22350, the Admiral Gorshkov, while the Admiral Kasatonov undergoes sea trials and two more frigates of this series are under construction.

The frigate Fleet Admiral Kasatonov is the second (the first serial-produced) Project 22350 warship built at the Severnaya Verf Shipyard (part of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation). The cutting-edge frigate was laid down on November 26, 2009 and floated out on December 12, 2014. The frigate is set to be delivered to the Russian Navy this year.

The lead warship of this series, the Admiral Gorshkov, was delivered to the Navy in the summer of 2018 and the construction of two more frigates (the Admiral Golovko and the Admiral Isakov) continues at the slipways of the Severnaya Verf Shipyard in St. Petersburg.

Project 22350 frigates are expected to become the Russian Navy’s most advanced warships in their class. These frigates displace 4,500 tonnes and can develop a speed of 29 knots. They are armed with Oniks and Kalibr missiles and the Poliment-Redut air defense missile systems.

Yeah. The West can hold their payment in escrow. And Russia can hold their oil & gas in escrow too. In the ground.
You cannot quickly ramp up and down oil & gas production. But you can do it in a couple months time. The oil is easy enough to store in the meantime. And the gas, well, I think Ukraine alone has like 30bcm underground storage which should be mostly empty right now. Russia has gas storage capacity of like 72bcm. They export like 200bcm to Europe yearly.
