... Statistics released by HM Treasury show defence spending in relation to GDP dropped to 1.9 percent in the last financial year.

The reduction means the UK has failed to reach the two percent target set by NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation).

The figures show that in 2015-2016, the UK spent a total of £36.6 billion on defence. That's down from £42.2 billion in 2010-2011.
