Re: 3D thrills for destroyer crews as HMS Dragon, HMS Dauntless & HMS Duncan join for

wait, what would those Unions do if Japanese weaponry was ordered??

As I originally wrote BAe and/or MBDA can obtain a license in which they can manufacture it at their own facilities.
That is why it is a win- win situation, the union workers have jobs at hand, Britain can have the weapons without waiting another decade and, Japan can recuperate the R&D cost through the licensing fee

even wiki says only 4 out of 6 Type 45 will get the Harpoons, and this is what I meant
the Anti-ship, submarine and land-attack part of the wiki entry ... I'm cooking the dinner right now, have to be quick LOL

Well 4 out of 6 isn't that bad, it could have been a lot worse..... I'm going to bed.

RAF Sentinel Could Go Maritime

c5qri2g.jpg

Monday’s announcement by Prime Minister David Cameron that the RAF’s Raytheon Sentinel R1 fleet will be extended in service until at least 2018 has breathed new life into the program, and sparked real interest in further development.

One of the key features that could be added is a greater maritime capability. While the RAF is quick to stress that a maritime-capable Sentinel is not a maritime patroller, it could be used as a gap-filler in certain scenarios, and has considerable applications in littoral operations, such as amphibious landings or humanitarian missions.

Britain to examine arms sales to Israel

Britain is reviewing the sale of $13.48 billion of military equipment to Israel to judge its suitability in light of the conflict in Gaza, the British Prime Minister's office said Monday.

Export licenses have been granted to 130 British suppliers of equipment, and the government said contracts will be individually examined to guarantee "internal repression or the provocation of conflict" is not the aim of the purchase by Israel, reported The Guardian.

Of particular interest are contracts for cryptographic software and military communications. The action comes after Prime Minister David Cameron agreed with the United Nations that Israeli shelling of Gaza schools was a "moral outrage."

"We are currently reviewing all export licenses to Israel to confirm that we think they are appropriate," a spokesman for the prime minister said.

Among the material supplied by British firms are components for two of Israel's most visible items in the Israeli arsenal -- the Hermes drone and Merkava battle tank. The British government, though, said it would not investigate it British-made parts were in use in equipment deployed in Gaza, and reinforced its belief Israel had a right to its self-defense.

A prototype active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar developed to meet specific British Royal Air Force requirements is to be flight-trialed on a Eurofighter Typhoon jet as part of a £72 million (US $123 million) deal awarded to BAE Systems by the Ministry of Defence. The deal with the British involves a number of work packages including a Typhoon flight test of a prototype radar as well as ground testing at BAE’s electronic warfare test facility at Warton in UK. Eurofighter officials said the radar could be in operational service on the Typhoon within three years.

Tornados will join hunt for girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria

Britain is preparing to send three warplanes to Nigeria to help in the hunt for hundreds of schoolgirls who are still missing more than four months after being kidnapped by Islamist militants, The Times has learnt. The Tornado GR4 fast jets, fitted with surveillance pods rather than missiles, are expected to conduct reconnaissance flights over the northeast of the country to gather intelligence on Boko Haram’s heartlands. This deployment would mean that the RAF fast jets are being used in operations in six areas around the world.
