Its hard to talk about LHD without talking about helicopters. they are a big part of the reason of the existance of LHD

does anyone know if the Chinese helo carrier is going to have a Type071 LPD style rear door which can flood to launch small patrol boats and hovercrafts?
cus the Aussie navys new LHD can also deploys troop transports from its rear door which floods like a LPD
so its of a mixture betweeen a LPD + LHD

My guess the PLAN is stalling introduction of this helo-carrier until they eventually can equip it with an indiginious helo in naval configuration z-15? No glory in introducing helo-carrier if it's equipped with adapted foreign design equipment! Helo carrier ould be a valuable asset to both limited scale amphibious landings, sending in commando's further inshore to capture/disrupt traffic crossroa

Judging from what's on the design table and continual works on Z-8 variants, it'd be a decade at least before they can introduce something in the weight class and capacity of the Z-8. Besides, China has a lot on the plate right now so the LHD can wait.

well i think having air logistics at sea is important, it provides airlift capability for landing troops is well for re-supply
also USS Peleliu a American LHD was sent to port of Karachi in Pakistan which provided rescue effort during the 2010 Pakistan floods bringing in fresh water, medical supplys and food so LHD can provide much needed humanitarian aid to hard hit areas and relief operations
I think the fresh water was made on board the LHD from its own filtration system
