Pop3 said that STOVL is under tender competition. Therefore an STOVL capable 076 should be able to handle J35 as well, although limited deployment due to landing space constraints. A good indication is catapult length, 3g acceleration for 2s reach 216km/s requires 60m of catapult.

Besides other things, STOVL requires quite specific engines. Without them STOVL wouldn't move further than proposal.

If the allegedly Chengdu patent is anything to go by. Front nozzle is powered by another engine in the front section of aircraft which means it won't need special designed side nozzle like pegasus engine on harriers. A splitter for exhaust is still needed but I don't think that can't be done on a let's say WS-13 with some reasonable modification.

I won't put too much faith on patent. If it is something really important that PLA want to keep secret, they won't publish it in a patent. Besides, nobody can make a patent to block PLA to use it or blackmail PLA to pay for it. The patent authority will simply not granting any such patent. In the US and Russia, registerring weapon patents may have a good reason because Boeing and LM are competitors, but in China there is only AVIC whose owner also owns the patent agency.

I have seen many catapult and arrestor gear patents including EM catapult by literally nobody (commoner in a village), but no patent by Ma Weiming, I don't think PLAN cares about patent.

About this CAC patent.

I think it is very likely outcome from an open design competition. It is orgnized by Aeronautic association of China, sponsered by CAC and included amateurs and Youths (teenagers). It is essentially a social-relationship afair, nothing serious.

The following is the list of rewards. See the green highlighted one, the name in green is the patent owner. The name of his design indicated the two frontal nozzles. He got only 3rd grade reward. The four blue colored are all carrier fighters and recieved higher rewards. Even if this competition is serious, PLAN wouldn't have chosen the worse one. BTW, I highly doubt the thing of "STOVL is under tender competition", likely another over-interpretation.

Do you know more details of the top designs?

No. Don't see a point in digging into this kind of event (once every two years, 2024 competition is coming). There would be close to hundreds of such designs by far.
So these are for the professional group, I guess? In that case, it might still be worthy?

First clearer photo of the hull modules at the new Hudong-Zhonghua drydock at Changxing Island, which belongs to one LHD (either 075-mod or 076) alongside one FFG (likely to be a 054AG/-mod).

Do note that the above photo is not recent, given that the opening at the rear section of the LHD has been seen being largely covered more than a week ago. The photo below is posted by @伏尔戈星图 on Weibo, taken from Sentinel 2 satellite photography.

Hmm ??? IMO that strange vessel at the HZ yard at Changxin Island looks looks not like a 075 but also not like a civil vessel, with the clearly open ended aft section for a well deck.

PLN Type 075 vs maybe 076.jpg
