Type 076 LHD/LHA discussion

I think the name, Type 076, hints this will be very similar to Type 075 and therefore not have an angled deck, the safety issue will have to be resolved another way. It really makes sense to have 2 cats as well.

Something like the front of a Type 003 setup, on a Type 075, plus arrestor gear.

For landing ops, only 1 cat would be available, giving landing drones a clear space to take off again of they have too.

Very speculative FAN-BOY art but gives an idea of another possible configuration. Adding fix-wing using a cat will be more complex and expensive than other countries adding stvol onto their LHD. I think there will be a point where a mini-carrier with lhd role may make more sense than a lhd with some fixed-wing role.

They think it will carry 42 combat aircraft? Am I understanding that right?

Also what is the "AJ"?

I would take everything in that photo as fan-boyism, just broadening people's imagination as what a type-76 could look like. Some people think it will look like a rectangle like a type 75, some think it will be angle deck etc...

I know, I'm just curious about the extent of the fanboys imagination lol.. if my assumptions are correct then that guy should never be taken seriously again.

I thought type 076 is amphibious assault ship, since when it became a light aircraft carrier?

At the most it is amphibious assault ship with enhanced UCAV air strike capability on top of its primary beach assault mission roles.

The carrier mafia in the US Navy sees catapults on LHAs as a threat to their supercarriers.

And rightly so.

When I did a back of the envelope calculation on Nimitz versus Wasp, I got a similar cost (procurement and operating) per sortie for lower-performance aircraft such as the GJ-11 or KJ-600.

At the moment, I think the Type-076 is a test ship, with Amphibious Assault still as the default mission.
But if it works out, it makes sense to build further specialised versions to complement full-sized carriers.
