Roketsan KMC missile launchers is ready to enter service:
The Pedestal Mounted CİRİT (KMC) Weapon System developed by Roketsan fired three different missiles. The system is ready to enter the inventory.
The Pedestal Mounted CİRİT Weapon System, which Roketsan qualified in 2014, continues its development successfully.
The system, which has been integrated into both land and sea platforms and has been subjected to various tests until today, is now capable of launching two more missiles.
Aiming to ensure that the missiles it has developed with an innovative approach can be fired from different platforms, Roketsan continues to produce different solutions for this purpose.
According to the information obtained by SavunmaSanayiST.com; Various tests were carried out with the KCM Weapon System between 9-11 March 2021.
During the tests carried out at the firing range in Konya's Karapınar district, the KMC Weapon System; CİRİT fired the UMTAS and L-UMTAS Missiles.
KMC Weapon System; It will be able to carry 4 UMTAS/L-UMTAS or 8 (2×4) CİRİT Missiles. In the mixed configuration, the system will be able to carry 2 UMTAS Missiles and 4 CİRİT Missiles at the same time.
Strange, the Turkish army is already is the process of getting 344 new tank destroyers with Kornet-E and OMTAS missiles also based on the same FNSS Kaplan 10 (and the wheeled PARS 4x4). I doubt they will go for this Roketsan solution too. It seems too expensive to me although it can fire longer range munitions of 8 km for both the Cirit and UMTAS missiles. Perhaps the army is looking for a longer range platform between the 4km OMTAS and the newer NLOS Spike-like missile?
344 modern tank destroyers is a lot considering the army already has 210 TOW tank destroyers based on the M113 and ACV hull. IMO the army should skip this Roketsan product and focus on the upcoming Spike-like NLOS platform also being developed by Roketsan and/or the Tubitak-Sage Kuzgun-KY.
Time will tell. Luckily the delay of the Altay is somewhat compensated by the current induction of 344 (original number was 260) new TD's and an eventual 83 T129 production run.
