Well, those wealthy or upper middle class families in developing countries will still sacrifice everything to send their kids in us universities for study. You will be surprised how many will still do that. lol
What you are saying basically is a lie, from what I have seen.
Back in the day, Chinese students from China who were in Canada or America, were there because of government scholarships, someone was paying for their education, it was not their own money. That was the reality, as China as a whole had no money.
The majority of Chinese students who paid their own way were from Hong Kong, and they were rich. They were rich then, and they are still rich. Often those Hong Kong students got their education in Canada, then citizenship, then left, going back to Hong Kong or even China.
So as far as the Chinese concerned, no one had to sacrifice everything for an education in North America, because it was either paid by the state, or that those families could afford it. Speaking for myself, I do not know a single family that did it that way, had no money and sent their kids abroad. They all had money squired away for that, in other words, it was expensive but they all could afford it.
What has changed today is two things. Now mainland Chinese money is in abundance, so the Chinese student has replaced the Hong Kong student. They could afford it. That is the first thing.
The second thing that has changed is this situation where the international student, from the Third World and not Chinese, come to the West to study and work. They have to do both because they did not have the money to come and study like the Chinese did. These people should not be allowed to work, because that abuses the system. That is why we find 40 year old students on bicycles from India in Toronto's Chinatown.
That is how it works in reality. The Chinese student, in his rented condo, gets this dirt poor 40 year old Indian student to deliver their meals. That is Toronto today. Still, they should get rid of these Indians, send them back to India. They are on bicycles in Chinatown under false pretenses.
