I don't think US is very good at doing industrial policy, for evidence of this all you have to do is look at the sorry state of Intel despite all that CHIPS act money going into their 14A node.

I rather doubt US can produce REE any time soon, all the noise recently seems to be Well Street type people using REE news as a play to push share prices up and down for day trading, rather than actual people getting down and doing the hard work of building up a refining industry.

It is hard to say with Intel. They have been in trouble for a while now, so turning things around is going to take while if it is possible.

I think developing good industrial policy takes a lot of failure at the national level before you can get success. No one should expect a single round of loans will create a thriving industry. It will likely take repeated attempts and refinement of government support to help these industries develop.

Pay 2 Win... what skins and loot boxes do you get for a 747?
Trump's unwashed briefs and warm boxes of raw Trump steaks for anything Boeing. 0.01% drop rate for his washed briefs and overcooked Trump steaks. You need to donate a A350-1000 for his suit and a box of the redacted Epstein documents. 0.01% drop rate for a box of the unredacted documents.

This is the end of Make in India. They wanted to leverage US-China trade war to get factories to move to India. Now those factories will stay put or move to other countries but not India.
So the total tariff is actually 60% because there is additional 10% for being a member of BRICS,
Someone tell Tim apple that it might be better to just assemble iphones in China again.
There is still time for some capitulation, tariffs will go into affect aug25th,

The worst part about the buying russian oil stuff is that India isnt even using the cheap oil to benefit itself/people.
Oil in india didnt get cheaper when they started buying, it kept parity with global oil rates, now they are even doing 10-20% ethanol mixture in their oil (with much backlash from car community as its bad for the engines)
Majority of the crude is bought by Ambani and some refineries, refined and 100% sold to the world and they pocket the profits.

Meanwhile people are still paying the high price.

Calm down, everyone. Although I also want to see India suffer a setback, it is clear that Trump is once again employing a tactic of extreme pressure. I think we will soon see India kneel at the feet of the United States, open up its domestic agricultural market, and declare that it will meet all of Trump's demands in exchange for low tariffs.
There is absolutely no way that tough guy image Modi is capitulating on anything. Indian fascist political culture prevents that.

India will simply swallow the tariffs and double down on self-reliance initiatives. There will be big economic pain of course but the delusional Indian media will spin it as a win somehow.

Nah India doesnt have an option, they are too reliant/linked with US, they will/have to bend the knee and will get their tariffs reduced.
I dont see them going rogue tbh they dont have the leverage that others have,

They are just going to fold and claim victory domestically, possibly placing blanket bans on Fox News and X until the whole thing blows over.
