The president of Panama has knelt before Trump, and after Marco Rubio's visit, he says that he will not renew the momorandum of understanding with China, and will even consider finishing it before...

Panama officially renounces the one belt one road

They have chosen to kiss Trump's feet
Panama was the 1st Latin American country to sign onto BRI. They are also the 4th country that decided to pull out after Estonia, Philippines and Italy.

That’s too bad that they can’t see which way the wind is blowing…

Or maybe they are waiting to see if Trump is serious about using military force to achieve his goals. I can understand not wanting to get couped.

I have read in one of the articles that Panamian president is staunchy pro-American (most LatAm conservatives are) so it's not that big of a surprise that he chose the appeasement route.

Panama may have decided not to renew the MOU, but I do remember reading that Colombia intends to join the BRI.

Has anybody attempted to figure out how many manufacturing jobs you would need to reshore to make the US less dependent on foreign manufacturers? According to a stat I found, US manufacturing employment reached a record high in June 1979 at around something like ~19 million people. As of 2023, manufacturing employed about ~14.9 million people in the US. So from peak in 1979 until today you would need to add 4.1 million (!!!) manufacturing jobs in the US to bring them back to their peak employment level.

It would be interesting to see if anyone with actual knowledge of the sector has looked into it.
