That larger deal did not mention the tariff on aluminum and steal which was the cause of China's tariff on American agriculture products. ZTE is just an add-on. Exchanging ZTE only without the aluminum and steel is not a good deal.

I even doubt the report WSJ being accurate.

We will have to wait to see what happens to the aluminum and steel.
US mainly imports steel from nation such as Canada SK etc. so china might figure current situation of ZTE is more important until they can figure out something in the future

Samsung may not willing to sell its chip to ZTE consider they are in same business. Huawei doesn't seem want to sell its chip to ZTE either . Also it's not just chips but other products from US that's monopoly by US companies

So you are suggesting China to pay for the blackmailing? I do agree that ZTE is important, but allowing a blackmail will open up the door for further and endless blackmailing, then the cost will be higher than ZTE.

Corrections: Samsung's business is mostly not overlapping with ZTE, Samsung is not much in infrastructure business, ZTE's phone is in the low-middle category not much concern to Samsung. Don't blame Huawei for not selling chip (Kirin) to ZTE, ZTE has TSMC because ZTE produce variants of the same model using either Qualcomm or TSMC chips. Other than the phone chips, Huawei does not have much to offer ZTE even it want to, many of those elements used by Huawei are not produced by Huawei, but other companies.

Buy Korean. US suppliers should never be allowed back into China again as soon as options to supplant them are in place.

Samsung Could Start Supplying ZTE With Smartphone SoCs to Revive Its Business – Qualcomm to Face Heated Competition
Samsung is already the largest chip manufacturer in the world revenue-wise and is looking to expand its business by offering Exynos SoCs to external clients. The company recently knocked down Intel to become the world’s leading semiconductor-based chip manufacturer. However, Intel only makes chips for computers and servers, not for smartphones.

First ZTE Flagship Might Tout the Exynos 9820 if the Deal Goes Through
Samsung’s Exynos lineup only power smartphones and the company is reportedly now negotiating with various OEMs and may find a new client for its SoC by next year. This also includes the likes of ZTE, which was banned to feature U.S.-based companies’ hardware such as Qualcomm. This provides an opening for Samsung to incorporate its in-house chipsets in the company’s upcoming handsets.

Right now, Samsung’s only client for its Exynos chips is the Chinese company Meizu. Inyup Kang, Samsung System LSI head told Reuters that the company expects to finalize a new client for its processors by the first half of next year. Currently, Qualcomm is the biggest supplier of SoC to most major smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung itself, with the latest ones being the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.

ZTE previously relied on Qualcomm for consistent sales of its mobile phones. America’s Department of Commerce ban on ZTE means it can’t source chips from Qualcomm any longer, as it is an American company. ZTE has ceased major mobile operations following the ban so it is in serious need of new vendors and Samsung could be the answer to its problems.

The ban on ZTE on the grounds that it was involved in ‘under the table’ deals with Iran could benefit Samsung in the long run. Samsung will be able to consolidate its position as the top chipmaker in the world because from next year, we might see a lot of Exynos-powered handsets flooding the market, with premium smartphones rocking

I find it strange or interesting that Samsung sells two variants of its Galaxy flagships. The one in EMEA is equipped with Exynos, the one sold in China or USA is Qualcomm. I wonder why. This news about Exynos for ZTE could be something related, more interestingly it would be a break of some undisclosed arrangement.

"Either Qualcomm or TSMC" makes no sense. You probably meant Qualcomm and Mediatek.

Samsung has been releasing both Snapdragon and Exynos variants of its flagships in different regions since the Galaxy S3. The modems on Exynos SoCs have historically been inferior to Qualcomm's, and they tend to lack support for North American LTE bands, so Snapdragon is always used for North America.

Also if you search on the subreddit r/ChinaPhones for Exynos, you will find that Chinese manufacturers have been using Exynos SoCs for years now, so it's not like ZTE can't do the same.

BRASILIA, May 15 (Reuters) - China will dispatch teams to inspect 84 meatpacking plants in Brazil to evaluate them for exports to China, Brazil'sAgriculture Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Brazilian Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi is currently visiting Beijing and confirmed with China's Commerce Minister Zhong Shan that inspectors will be sent at the end of the month.

"The expectation is that the Asian country will open up a good part of these meatpacking plants for export," the ministry said in the statement.

Maggi expressed hope that the two countries could resolve many of the issues involved in Brazil's 102 complaints against China pending with the World Trade Organization, according to the statement.

Maggi and Brazil's delegation also met with Chairman Zhao Shuanglian of COFCO, China's largest food processor and trader, according to the minister's

China's not playing. Once it diversifies away from American agriculture, it's not coming back, trade war or no trade war. This is China setting things up so that in the future, Brazilian meat beats American and even with all tariffs removed, US exports to China in this category don't recover.
