Trade War with China

Trump, who has long argued that the U.S. will ultimately win a trade war with China, said the recently hiked tariffs on Chinese goods "are having a devastating effect on China."

Hickenlooper disagreed and said he doesn't think "anyone's really taking into account" the risk of alienating U.S. allies as a result of a trade war.

"In the same way that our policies toward Iran ... isolate them again, now some of our allies are finding different ways to trade so they're not using U.S. dollars as a medium for trade," Hickenlooper said.

Hickenlooper said he was "certainly not going to argue that China didn't cheat on international agreements" by stealing intellectual property as the U.S. has long alleged. "You can't let that go on," he said.

But "the risk here is pretty darn high," he added.

"When you look at some of these electronics companies and how they're having to rebuild their supply chains because of these tariffs, these are ... supply chains that were designed to create jobs in the United States," Hickenlooper said. "And now those jobs are probably moving away, moving out of the country forever."

Just wanna share this song with all of you. The name of the song is "My Dream", and it is the theme song for Huawei phones. Never mind the lyrics, it's the music and the story of the MV that's more important.

Hope you enjoy.

Also Jane Zhang is so beautiful and talented and one of my favorite singers.

But there is a caveat. Chinese standards may not be accepted all over the world. If china starts setting her own standards then I don't think it will be a wise move. Right now china has great opportunity to take the chunk out of US's global footprint and I believe China will increase her cooperation with every country except the US.

China is its own continent size market therefore can make its own standard. Many deals between Europe and China have been vetoed by the US. That means the US has that much power over Europe. It is Europe that has to make that choice. China is going it's own way just to avoid people like Trump in the future.

China over a decade ago was thinking its own standard for many technologies and the US and EU complained because that means if they wanted to make money from China, they had to spend money to adjust to China's standard. Trump is only helping China make Made in China 2025 a reality.

Damn, I've been listening to the English version of this song, and never realized it had a Chinese version!

The English title is "Dream It Possible" and the singer is Delacey.

Great song.

I don't think everyone(or majority) in any of the anglophone countries are anti China. I personally know quite a number of Brits. Almost all of them are neutral or pro China. Also most of them are ethnic Englishmen so it's not that non white Brits have sympathetic view of China.

It might be true not evrryone is "anti-China". For example, my wife, her family and friends are all English, and they are no way anti-China. BUT.......

The majority of the Brits are! To be fair they are, but they don't know why they are! All brits I came accross thats not part of my family really don't care or know anything about China.

BUT, they all, to a man repeat all the anti-China stuff they read about in their media, stuff like IP thieft, "forced tech transfers" ETC. but when I challlenge them for proof, and so forth, they all, to a man unable to answer!

This just shows you the power of the western MSM in directing (controlling) public opinons (thoughts). Talk about brain-washing!

It is the domination of Anglo-Saxon liberal political and media discourse. The only politically correct thing to do nowadays on Earth is to pay lip service to liberal democratic norms and democratic capitalism, despite that fact that each individual or organization has its own more pragmatic agenda. For example, Trump's lieutenants (like Steve Miller) clearly has a racist agenda directed toward Chinese immigrants and students, but he could hide his real agenda behind "defense of liberal democracy." I feel that the very dominance of Anglo-Saxon liberal political discourse has somehow engendered such political discourse to be instrumentally misused and abused by individuals with more malign intent. In this sense, I worry that just like how the idea socialism was misused and abused during the Cultural Revolution, liberalism could be abused today by white supremacists, politicians and corporate CEOs (including those from China, too). Woodrow Wilson's administration was a perfect example of how Liberalism was misused to justify domestic limitations to freedom of expression and enhance global white imperial supremacy (by denying racial equality clause to the Japanese during Versailles negotiation).

That's why I say that whatever price we pay is worth Chinese people waking up to how they are perceived in the world.

When there was criticism of the Iraq War where innocent people were killed, the response was anyone who isn't for Saddam should up rise against their government and change it. If innocent people die, that's their own fault for not doing anything about it? Now who's more responsible for the actions of their government? The people that live under a dictatorship or the people that elect their own leaders in government? Of course not everyone is guilty for what someone else does but when do they start practicing it. When the US spy plane was forced to land on Hainan, I remember plenty people in the media calling for boycotting Chinese restaurants in the US. I never heard anyone say that was wrong. The Chinese are always expected to be mindful while they are not. When the US bragged about Prompt Global Strike being able to strike any country in the world in less time than a pizza delivery, they warned potential adversaries that they had to take the time to not mistake it as a nuclear weapon while with China's ASBM Americans declared they will see it automatically as nuclear and launch nuclear counterstrikes to deter China from ever using it. Apply their own logic on who's innocent and who's guilty. Who's more responsible for the actions of their own government...?

Mexico getting slapped with tariffs, 5% every month until 25%. Even after Mexico signed the new NAFTA 2.0 deal.

Why would China to trust that Trump will uphold and honor the trade deal? He backed out of so many agreements, like Iran nuke deal, Paris climate accord, UN arms treaty, UNESCO, UNHRC, START treaty, TPP, and now NAFTA 2.0 is on verge of cancellation.

You can only apply logic and negotiate in good faith if your opponent is a rationalistic long term thinker, which Trump is not.
