Not sure what's going on but there seems to be some rebound for Huawei lately.
Good news, but doesn't really matter at this stage. In any case after the 90-day temporary license it's going to be the same.
Not sure what's going on but there seems to be some rebound for Huawei lately.
I don't think everyone(or majority) in any of the anglophone countries are anti China. I personally know quite a number of Brits. Almost all of them are neutral or pro China. Also most of them are ethnic Englishmen so it's not that non white Brits have sympathetic view of China. Not everyone in the anglosohere is aligned with trump on the China drama. People are naturally inclined to respond emotionally and negatively to anything that threatens their personal structures. The structures they've spent their lives adapting to and become accepting of. Despite this, there is actually a good amount of rationality behind the divisive rhetoric that some continue to propel. The struggle is in how these voices multiply and this is where western propaganda has a major role. I fully believe there are various groups pulling the strings in manipulating popular opinion. It also seems like they often work against each other.
Having said that the main effort observed is wholly anti-china. At least what modern China stands for in their minds ie robot drones serving an authoritarian government to oppose the justice that the "free world" is applying to right the world.
Just raising a question-Reports from Malaysia. Some restaurants and cafes has been offering discounts to Huawei users in Malaysia.
Granted, they could just be marketing their businesses, but this is reflecting the mood among the locals.
Several restaurants and cafe are offering discounts for Huawei users in Malaysia
Huawei is facing some challenging times right now as the US government has from doing business with the Chinese brand. To leverage on the current situation and perhaps to show solidarity, a couple of local F&B outlets are offering discounts to customers that use a Huawei device.
Churrz, Petaling Jaya
In Petaling Jaya, , a cafe that serves Churros and Poke bowls are currently offering 10% discount on food items. All you’ll need to do is to show your smartphone to enjoy the discount.

In the MalayMail article, it was reported that the owners felt that the Huawei ban was unjust and it’s not fair for consumers. They reported that the response to the promotion was well received and they have been getting lots of enquiries.
Volcano Grill Cafe, Ipoh

</Sarcasm>maybe because Chinese companies are evilThe thing is all the companies in the rest of the world form JV or buying over compnaies (and hence the transfer of technology) all the time. If they are free to do so, why can't Chinese companies?
But there is a caveat. Chinese standards may not be accepted all over the world. If china starts setting her own standards then I don't think it will be a wise move. Right now china has great opportunity to take the chunk out of US's global footprint and I believe China will increase her cooperation with every country except the US.All Trump's trade war does is spur on Made in China 2025. It turns the nightmare into reality. The US bans just turns foreign corporations away from using their licensed products thus they make no money. China will create its own standard and US companies will lose out. Even if there's a trade agreement, China will definitely be going its own way. And let's not forget this all started during the Obama administration. The EU also criticized and worried that China would not be buying from them because of Made in China 2025. Trump is just carrying out the policies to stop it. Don't think this stops when Trump is out of office.
This is what I think members of us diplomatic corps are afraid of. US had immense soft power and still has, but the way us government is acting I don't think they will have much left if DT stays in power till 2024(and continues such impulse driven reactions).Does Trump and his gang realise that they're using precious American power, goodwill and reputation built up as a result of decades of global leadership?
Trump may not think of soft power as real power, he probably likes concrete numbers more, like how much trade deficit there is or how many illegal immigrants have entered the country. But soft power is REAL power and in some sense it may even be more important than hard power. It takes a long time to build up trust and respect, but only a brief moment to destroy it all.
To be honest, even as a Chinese, I feel really sad for all these things that Trump and the US is doing. I was born in 1995, and I grew up in an era of American ideological supremacy and rapid globalisation. As an economics & law student at an Australian university, what Trump has done is a mockery of all the economic and legal principles that I truly believe in. Free trade, free market, comparative advantage, separation of powers, protection of the private company, the list goes on.
I still believe these, and I'm not saying that China has done a great job in these respects. But the US was supposed to be a role model, a leader, or at the very least pretend to be one. Trump's America doesn't even PRETEND to be that role model it once was. And that's quite sad.
P.S. Nothing in this post is directed at the American people. I'm not fanning nationalism or hatred. I'm only expressing my feelings towards Trump and his administration. If the mods feel this is inappropriate, let me know and I'll delete it.
Just raising a question-
Is it possible that Huawei is sponsoring such restaurants as an asymmetric pr campaign?
Yes I wrote that specifically after viewing that video on the Mexican restaurant. The one serving Hakka noodles probably has a Chinese owner. Not sure about the rest.
I also read that some restaurants in Mexico also started offering discounts to Huawei users. In that case the owners were probably sticking it to Donald Trump.
