This is a list of the top weapon systems that have been purchased by the ROC and are now in use. First I must say I have seen 2 of these systems in action and have had a close friend explain to me why the Javelin is so great. I hope to ferment good logical conversation about the counter measures the PLA will have to deploy to counter these systems because I don't know of many...cheers ute.

1. First and most powerful is the next generation of the hellfire with a Blast/Frag warhead. This puppy used on ground platforms for firing would cause major problems with any PLA amphibious landing without a doubt.

2. Next is the Avenger with stinger mounts. PLA helo and low flying ground support aircraft (which the PLA WILL NEED) will be put into serious jepordy by this system. I have seen this thing used in a NTC rotation and it hits its target and hits it well. I would not want to be flying over the ROC if I were a PLA helo pilot

3. Last but not least is the Javelin. This kick ass system has been (from what I have been told) the best piece of fielded equipment in a long long time. A true fire and forget system that will rip apart most modern armoured vehicles. This weapon has been used alot by the Army and is just a awesome piece of equipment used against anything. I have been told this monster never ever misses anything it is targeted against and destroyes whatever it hits with its warhead.

In basic training we had instruction in force protection and were shown a video of a test firing of an live Javelin missile against a T-72. It was totaly blown apart.
The turret was some 10+ m away, while parts of the susension flew 20-30m in a different direction, and so on.

Do you have any link to the above equipment/weapon?

From what I have read, Javelin's most impressive features are "cold launch", "Fire and forget", and "Top flying profile". The most impressive ofcourse is the top flying profile feature, and from what I deduce, it uses imaging technology - checking pixel movement and continue to lockon to the same pixel; plus it uses thermal imaging technology too. Since imaging sensors and electronics are very sensitive, it can probably be disabled by overloading it - either using laser, or other means (I don't know!). Some of the Air to Air missiles have already these technologies built-in, and counter-measures have already been invented for fighters. It is just a matter of miniturising these hardware for ground use.

There are other ways too to counter this, best solution? take out the operators before they can even use their weapon to cause any problem. Send in well trained sniper teams to hunt for them.

Hmm. If you can get your sniper team so close to a target and pinpoint the location of a missile battery, then it probably makes more sense to simply launch a ballistic missile attack, or use stand-off weapons.

In fact that's probably China's primary trump card against whatever technology Taiwan can field, which is the ability to saturate the island with missiles. It all depends on the mission goal...

Javelin, is not a missile battery. It is a personnel anti-armour weapon. It is basically a very modernised personnel anti-tank rocket launcher. It means, troops with such weapon can be dispersed. And it is illogical for field commander to launch ballistic missiles at them, causing wide spread infrastructural damage. And it is also impractical to use BM, because by the time BM is coming down, the troops would already be long gone, or found underground cover.

As the old saying goes, "you don't swot a fly with a canon." ;)

In Iraq of Afghanistan, there are not really a lot of enemy armored vehicles to fire at. The Javellin is used as a direct fire weapon in this case. It is very useful in urban situations to fly in through a window, and it gives an infantry squad blow up a rooftop or some feature of a building that the enemy is using. In Afghanistan it is also useful because it gives you the ability to accurately hit cave entrances, mountain ledges and other natural terrain features. Thus the Javellin is also a useful anti-personnel weapon as it is an anti-vehicles weapon.

To add something new: Taiwan has also quiet modern AH-1W attack helis and M109A6 SPHs, wich represent the latest US development in 155mm artillerie.
There's more like some hawkeyes, capable Mirage2000-5 / F-16A, PAC-II SAMs ...
The systems are quiet capable, but they have not many of them. So China's counter to them may just be attrtion.
