Re: Today's US Navy Hi-res Photos!

Hey popeye what's your opinion of the USS Independence?

Right now I feel the ship is to lightly armed. But future modules will solve that.

I was not a "surface sailor" so I don't know much about the inner workings of this ship.

Re: Today's US Navy Hi-res Photos!

In as much as I agree that the PLA (Army) is a traditional land power, it appears that the PLAN (Navy) is becoming a major Naval Power, covering the South & East China Seas at this present time. Let's not underestimate its capabilities. Studying what was written in the US Defence Secretariate & USN papers/articles; and also the recent remarks by the new Defence Secretary Leon Panetta, it is acknowledged that China's Naval Power is a force to be reckoned with.

advill..In my opinion the PLAN is gaining strength as each day passes..however until they ramp up their training by sending ships to sea for extended periods they've got a long, long way to go to be even close to the Worlds Greatest Navy.

Re: Today's US Navy Hi-res Photos!

There is the other side of the photos besides focusing on the the equipment, firepower etc. They carry the messages of tremendous sacrifices made by the US military (and those of the British in other forum photos) carrying out their duties far away from their families, loved ones and friends. BZ to them ,and we wish their safe return when missions are completed, hopefully soon.
