This is my first post, thought I'd bring some eye candies for you guys. Saw Jeff's trip photos in 2012 to San Diego. Since I live in San Diego, I thought I'd provide more close up photos taken in April of this year right before some of the ships' departure for RIMPAC. USS Ronald Reagon had already left by that time.

This is still not the most number of ships I have seen, the fully packed naval base would feature 4-5 LPDs, few more DDGs, two active service carriers, and a few more Wasps, which I saw back in 2010. Definitely the 2nd largest naval base next to Norfolk.

The most ships you will see inport in any US Navy base is around Christmas and New Years.

One of the main reasons there are more ships in Norfolk are:

1) Very few Atlantic fleet ships stationed over seas. Where as in the Pacific fleet ships are homeported in Hawaii, Guam and Japan.

2) The Charleston SC Naval base was closed in 1996 as a result of BRAC recommendations.
