GROTON, Conn. (May 21, 2009) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Chris Yaras holds his four-week old daughter for the first time as his wife looks on. Yaras is returning home aboard the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Hartford (SSN 768) and was on a scheduled deployment when his daughter was born. actually got a comment on the firefighting drill onboard the USS Lake Champlain -- shouldn't they wear some protective gear or at least come at the target from different angles instead of facing each other? not fun to be hit but a highly-pressurized column of water.

I've never seen this done. And really don't think anyone is in danger as long as they are not hit with the full force of the hose. I'm guessing it's some sort of targeting exercise.
