The War in the Ukraine

Just show how little people actually know about Soviet nuclear industry. long story short, it doesnt involve Ukraine in any part except the rockets. Russia doesnt have any shortages in ballistic missile design bureaus.. with big names like NPO Mashinostroyenia (UR-100 family), Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology (MITT), Makayev OKB and all still running. While Ukraine have just Yuzhnoye or Yangel OKB.

All the design bureaus and industries that designed and manufacturing the warhead, encryption equipment, communications etc are in Russia proper. Those nukes never belong to Ukraine in the first place. Even the Encryption keys and communications to transmit launch orders are in Russia.

The only viable alternative for Ukraine to get nukes is a nuclear sharing agreement with NATO/US in the same manner as deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus or AUKUS which can allow US and British nukes deployment in Australia.
Best thing is that these people seem to think that saying "no" to turning over the nukes was even an option. Had the Ukrainians refused to give them up, best case scenario they'd just get sanctioned into oblivion by both sides.

Ukrainian tank struck by fiberoptic drones from the Sudaplatov unit. This might be VT-40 with fiberoptic.

Giatsint-S at work on its targets. This SPG is popular among artillerists of the Russian Army with good reason despite its age and being supercedes by the MSTA-S. One reason lies with it's use of Krasnopols. The heavier propellant charge of the Hyacinth howitzers enable a better range over its successor the MSTA howitzers.

M777 taken out by a Lancet.

At one time the Russians were going to obsolete their entire 220mm MLRS category, looking to stick to the 122mm Tornado-G (Modernized Grad) and the 300mm Tornado-S (Modernized Smerch). But war and battle priced otherwise and the Uragan has resurged in popularity among Russia rocker artillery forces.

Ukrainian vehicle, probably a supply transport, was spotted by a Russian UAV and a Lancet was dispatched to finish it off.

As the Russians close in on Pokrovosk, so is intensity of drone attacks on Ukrainian vehicles in the area.

The video provided by Rubicon (Russia's new Unmanned Systems Force) is interesting and shows several attacks carried out with the new FPV drones, which are guided by wires and have night vision.

The Russian industry is already producing this system in series. Nights in Ukraine have become a trap, due to the exceptional image quality.

Footage of an attack by Russian VT-40 FPV drones, controlled via fiber optic cable, on a Ukrainian Leopard 1A5 tank. The video was filmed in the Kursk region of Russia, near the village of Novosergeevka. The Leopard 1A5 tank was created in Germany in 1987, it is a modernization of the first Leopard-1 tank. The Leopard 1A5 tank is maneuverable, it weighs 42.2 tons. But it has thin armor, in Germany it was decommissioned in 2010. The Leopard 1A5 tank was attacked by two Russian FPV drones.

I previously posted a video with Rubicon compilations which also appears to be an AI drone. The FPV drone attacks a target with EW domes and the feed is cut off. The next feed is an observing drone watching the target burning. And then another and another. It's obvious these were tests are set up with an observing drone tailing the AI drone, not another FPV drone coincidentally being around for the cool footage.

The VT-40 drone is one of the first two of Russia's crowd funded FPV drones, along with the Upyr. Obviously the RuAF cannot wait for the MoD's extensive and bureaucratic approval process, along with government approved funding and it's bureaucratic so and so. Both drones came out of the woodwork in the late spring of 2023, just after Bakhmut fell and the Ukrainian summer counteroffensive about to begin in South Donetsk and Zaporozhye. And just in time, so they will play a big role in stopping the Ukrainian advance, creating the meme of ten million dollar tanks stopped by five hundred dollar drones.

The Sudoplatov unit is the one primarily using, testing and promoting the VT-40 drone. The VT-40 with fiberoptic appears to also be tested with this unit. This makes it the second fiberoptic drone after the Prince Vandal of Novgorod or KVN drone which debuted in the Kursk front. The second Russian crowd funded drone, the Upyr, also debuted with the Ukrainian summer counteroffensive but really made its name over the Battle of Krynki.

You and @zyklon are going off topic, and you in particular need to cool down and be mature.

Thank you for the kind reminder, and as such, responding in the "The War in the Ukraine" thread in recognition of the importance of staying on topic.

For China (and for now), Ukraine is FAR more valuable as an albatross around American and European necks, depleting military and economic resources that would surely instead be focused against China itself. The Houthis, same thing. Maybe even Gaza soon. In fact ANY conflict around the world in which the US is involved, I'm sure China is ok with.

This is obviously a comic exaggerated for comedic effect, but something you might appreciate . . .

d2fbf12c-5b97-4343-865e-6404bef08301.jpg

Though from some American perspectives, China is a "free rider" enriching itself by exploiting the stability and security provided by Pax Americana (paid for with American treasure in places like Ukraine and Israel, and with American blood in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere).

Not looking to stray off topic, but in the spirit of neutrality and objective discourse, wanted to acknowledge that there are two (or more) sides to everything, including the rationale behind America's many military commitments across the globe.

Why would they prolong it when Ukraine is a valuable trading partner you stupid mutt.

Both Ukraine and Russia have paid a heavy price in blood and treasure these past three years. In fact, I dare say the ongoing conflict has been nothing short of calamitous for Ukraine, especially in terms of demography.

While this has been tragic for the direct belligerents, the situation has also produced "winners" and "losers" elsewhere in the world.

In addition to what Iron Man stated, Russia is now more dependent on China economically, technologically and financially than ever before. Considering Russia's abundance of natural resources, which serve as essential inputs for manufacturing and energy generation, what's not to like here for a next door neighbor and manufacturing powerhouse like China?

However, Western sanctions responsible for Russia's current level of dependence on China will start to subside as peace returns to Ukraine. The process will take years, if not a decade or longer, but it will present Russia with the opportunity to "wean" itself off China. Not to say major beneficiaries of the conflict like China and India should or will attempt to obstruct the peace process, but peace is not always good for everyone.

They certainly know where to land this drone. Fiberoptic drone closes in on a Ukrainian tank with a big turret bustle, no doubt Western high probability a Leopard 2 and deliberately hits it just where the rear wheel is. All those studying of captive Leopards is paying off. Drone footage courtesy of the RuAF 83rd Brigade, which puts it at the Kursk region.

This Ukrainian BMP-2 is badly burning after being hit by a drone and then the ammo exploded.

Russian FPV drone infiltrates a Ukrainian vehicle hanger and looks around, finds two armored vehicles and a tank then expends itself on the tank. Another drone follows to finish off the rest. Strange that no one is inside the hanger. Abandoned? By the Sudoplatov unit which makes this on the Group Center area of responsibility.

Footage has been published of a strike by a Russian Iskander-M missile on a group of Ukrainian equipment near the village of Boromlya in the Sumy region of Ukraine. The 27th Rocket Artillery Brigade of the Ukrainian Army is reportedly stationed in the forest. The brigade is armed with 300-mm Olkha MLRS and support equipment. The Olkha MLRS were developed on the basis of the Soviet Smerch MLRS and were accepted into service in 2018. The Olkha MLRS can launch 12 missiles in 48 seconds at a range of up to 130 kilometers. For an unknown reason, one Russian Iskander-M air-burst missile was used for the attack. Due to the shooting range, the extent of the damage is unclear, but the military equipment was densely packed. Official reports indicate that eight passenger vehicles, six armored vehicles, two trucks, a multiple rocket launcher, and a transport and loading vehicle were damaged.

In addition to upgrades, Russia will produce 750 Iskander-M and 560 X-101 cruise missiles for 2025, according to RUSI. That's like 62 Iskanders and 46 X-101 per month. The explosive warhead is doubled for the Iskander and improvements are made to the X-101's optical guidance system and trap shooting system to defeat SAMs.
