, that the two Caesar self-propelled howitzers were sold, through an intermediary, by Ukrainians to Russians. The price, which is being discussed in tight circles, is $120,000 each. BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that the unit value of a Caesar self-propelled howitzer varies around the amount of 7 million euros.

We kept hearing about the vulnerability of subsonic and non-stealthy cruise missiles. Tomahawks were successful despite that. But they were used in regions with low SAM density. In Ukraine, even relatively old-tech Ukrainian SAMs are shooting down many cruise missiles and the Kalibr is faster than the Tomahawk. The West has just recently started introducing stealthy cruise missiles and Western inventories almost completely consist of unstealthy and subsonic missiles. I think the Chinese investment in supersonic cruise missiles and ballistic missiles was a better approach that the West couldn't replicate because of the war on terror and its obsession with interventions against distant countries.

Ukrainian SAM that can do this is the good old-fashioned Buk. Buks on both sides are shooting down everything from UAVs to tactical ballistic missiles. The Buk is showing itself to be a reliable and effective weapon.

Ukrainian Buk managed to shoot down missile from their own S300 recently! By some measure you could argue that's the first every boost phase interception of a missile in anger.

Indeed, the photo evidence in this article confirms this fact. Even the entire backstory!

Today Russian forces destroyed all Ukrainian M142's and provided evidence on the film. So there's no argument about that.

Zelensky instructs Defense Minister, General Staff Chief, AFU Commander-in-Chief to report details of restriction on conscripts' movement

interesting that zelensky basically came out and said that the decision to restrict movements had nothing to do with him and is all military's fault. i don't know much about ukrainian law but does its current state of emergency give the military power to impose restrictive measures on civilians? it seems like zelensky hasn't overruled the military on this just yet.

in any case this is the first time cracks are showing publicly between zelensky and the military leadership, very significant development.

Ballistic and supersonic missiles will be more expensive and far bulkier compared to equal range subsonic cruise missiles.

I remember a study done after WW2 that showed that the V-1 cruise missile was one of the most cost efficient bombardment implements of the war (far superior to B-29), regardless of the fact that great numbers of them were shot down by AAA and fighter aircraft. The UK devoted huge resources to air defense against them, whereas against the V-2 ballistic missile there was no defense and no resources were diverted in that direction. Had the Germans invested all their V-2 resources into V-1 they would’ve caused far more damage to the Allied war efforts.

Subsonic cruise missiles are too expensive for a large bombing campaign too. The likes of the P-500 and P-700 were really big enough to severely restrict delivery options.

The same cannot be said for the P-800 and P-900, and their Chinese counterparts the YJ-12 and YJ-18.
