The War in the Ukraine

Lieutenant General
That Austrian General Staff colonel who makes videos on Youtube about the developments in the war in Ukraine said in a video a few months ago that Russia could manufacture about 70,000 UMPK bombs this year, he claims that the monthly/annual deployment of the bombs in Ukraine would already be less than the bomb production, which seems to be the case at the present time, because at the current rate of 10,000 UMPK bombs dropped in Ukraine in three months, that suggests a total of 40,000 UMPK bombs dropped annually, which is less than the production that would be according to the colonel at 70,000 UMPK, a difference of 30,000 UMPK.

Another interesting development is that I saw a claim that the Russians are seriously considering developing the UMPK kit for the FAB-5000 and FAB-9000 bombs, they want to somehow deploy these bombs for military purposes.

yes and they also basically just add wings to the dumb bombs from the Soviet era bombs

quick and easy

Extremely bold claim tbh as no Russian bombers are made to carry those anymore, and such weapon might be impractical. They need a purpose built weapon.

The carrying capacity of the TU 160 is 40 tons, the ODAP 9000 thermobaric bomb was tested in 2007. The carrying capacity of the TU 95 is also sufficient, as we know from the Tsar Bomba test.
Of course, using this bomb near the front would only be a test of a very expensive target for the enemy's air defense. So we'll leave it as a theory, I think...

If such a bomb has the UMPK kit, it could be lofted from inside russian controlled airspace. Would make one hell of a bang against any unfortunate target on the receiving end.

When did the last time Tu-160 carrying such payload ?

Tu-95 for tsar bomba is not a good measure tbh as the bomber has its bomb bay modified. The best analogue would be during Checnya War where i recalled the last time Tu-95 dropped FAB-9000 in anger. The thing is that, today's Tu-95 is not what Tu-95 was.

Such range, might need some big wings to attain high Lift to Drag ratio (L/D) Gliding equation is simple, range are equal to Height of drop multiplied by the L/D. Suppose you loft it from 10000 m and intend to outrange Patriot (160 km at least) You would need L/D of at least 16. Something which might not be necessarily available or expedient to attain in expendable weapon.
