I am becoming very curious about Russia's new generation of Fibre Optic Cable controlled drones. Some of these drones have been geolocated very deep behind the front lines. I am wondering if these are ground launched drones with a lot a cable attached or whether the Russians are Air launching them piggy backed on another or from an even larger "Mother Ship" radio controlled drone which is kept out of ECM range.
Anybody heard anything on this? Thanks

Nothing air launched. Either from DRGs or the front lines are plain wrong. I think maps done by Deep State UA and used by neutral YouTube cartographers are wrong as you can see from 'impossible' salients. Even if you take account of pro-Russian mappers they might also be lagging behind because the MoD has threatened sites like Rybar with arrest for violating opsec. Given that in mind, they are reluctant to map anything that isn't mapped by the pro-Ukrainian side. Videos used for geolocation may also be time lagged or deliberately released delayed so. So always keep in mind the mapped front lines by OSINT may not correspond to reality.

For me personally I take grey zones as areas the Ukrainians have lost control and areas where the Russians have reported advances but is not geolocated confirmed.

As a result of false information, artillery units, depots, and so and so, might be a bit too close to the actual front line. I suspect the supposed range that the KVN drone is about 10km is also BS.

As to the Sudja salient, I think the range of the fiberoptic drones are capable of covering the entire salient, plus the entire salient still held by the Ukrainians isn't as big as the media coverage tends to lend itself to.

KVN drones hit a Ukrainian tank and an M777 howitzer in the Sudja district. Drones via the 30th 'Moscow' Regiment.

EW warfare module didn't help this Ukrainian pickup as the FPV drones overtook and struck it. In the Serebroyanskoye Forest.

Russian advances and assaults are aimed at taking forest lines, patches, village settlements that can be used as forward drone operating bases close enough to strike Ukrainian supply routes. From there they turn the Roads of Life into the Roads of Death.

When fibre optics FPV first emerged I recall looking up the listing in Aliexpress and back then 10km was the maximum. Looking at the listings today 15km and 20km spools are now available:

I've heard from weibo sources that all that business from Russia has lead to optimisation of manufacturing for them in China too, to the point that drone grade fibre optic cable are now cheaper to produce per meter than noodles.

Fibre optic FPV is one of the rare cases in this war where Russian had clear vision and correctly predicted what technology would be critical on the battlefield ahead of it actually happening. If they weren't ready Kursk Counteroffensive with the sudden surge in EW by AFU would've had much greater impact.

Says buy 2 spools get 2% off. 100 spools get 70% off. USD $163 per spool down from $543.

Dig the volume discounts.

Footage of a Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile striking a Ukrainian S-300V air defense system. The video was filmed between the villages of Malyi Bobryk and Velykiy Bobryk in the Sumy region of Ukraine, about 24 km from the border with Russia. The filming was carried out by a Russian drone, the S-300 air defense division of Ukraine was not covered by other air defense systems. The S-300V air defense system is a less common tracked modification of the S-300 air defense system. The S-300V missile launcher is mounted on the chassis of the Pion self-propelled gun. Judging by the video, the Iskander-M missile strike was accurate, just a few meters from the air defense system. As a result of the strike, the missiles exploded in the Ukrainian S-300V air defense system.

In theory there is nothing particularly technologically challenging about a fibre-optic capable controlled mothership dropping fibre-optic cable controlled FPVs to allow you to easily double the range of your FPVs and still enjoy hardline EW immunity. The mothership should have dual mode control via hardline and conventional radio antenna, so after deploying the FPVs, it can just detach the hardline and fly home via radio control to avoid complications with dragging kms of cable all over the place, which might snag or be traced back to base by opfor.

I think the main issue with such daisy chained drones would be response time and size of the mothership. It will take the mothership a decent amount of time to fly 10-20km, and more time for the FPV to then go 10-20km themselves, so the mothership would need to have the endurance for a 40km round trip itself, while also staying on station for at least the length of time it takes the FPVs to go the final 10-20kms. Just how big would the mothership needs to be to have that kind of endurance? Most likely to get something with enough range and endurance to do that would give you something big enough to be detectable and engageable by traditional anti-air, which negates the principle benefit of drones.

Also, with the speed and cost reductions from Chinese fibre optics advancements, it’s probably far more cost effective to just strap bigger batteries and longer length cable spools to increase range rather than mess around with motherships.

Also, as range to target increases, so does the detection capability demands while response times drops. I think you will have a situation of significant increasing costs and diminishing returns once you reach a certain point in terms of trying to boost FPV range beyond which the maths start working against you.
