Long Battle for a Ruined City Takes a Desperate Turn
Ukrainian troops are engaged in a harsh struggle for Toretsk, a strategic city in eastern Ukraine that has been under relentless assault by Russian forces.
The soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces were not prepared for combat and abandoned several positions in the Toretsk sector (Niu York direction) in a matter of days, the New York Times reported today.
The Ukrainian fighters admit that the 41st Mechanized Brigade was unable to defend Toretsk due to a lack of knowledge of the general situation at the front. They also criticized the military leadership in Kiev for not listening to the observations made by tactical commanders, as well as "for issuing unclear orders and not reacting quickly to changes in the situation."
The General Staff of Ukraine, in response to written questions from the newspaper, declined to discuss operational details, but said that the Ukrainian military leadership "always takes into account the suggestions of commanders on the ground," the New York Times reported.

Details of the Ukrainian attempt to land marines in the Tendra Inner Harbor, in the Kherson direction, have emerged. For the second time this year, Ukrainian forces are attempting to land in Tendra, at the mouth of the Dnieper River.
The location is very isolated, with only a small Russian garrison operating a lighthouse, where they monitor the air and sea space. Since midnight yesterday, Ukrainian forces have been conducting reconnaissance using a Turkish-made TB2 drone.
In order to conceal the landing, the Ukrainians allegedly used suicide naval drones in advance. At around 03:00, 12 boats with Ukrainian troops advanced towards the target. As a result of the fighting, the first 3 boats were reportedly destroyed, and in the face of the Russian reaction, the remaining 9 boats withdrew.
