The War in the Ukraine

Wow, the CV90 is taking a real beating! It doesn't look like it is managing much better than the M2 Bradley did.

There has been a lot of discussion about where tank development will go after this war, but IFV and APC development will face at least as many questions about survivability and costs.

ATGM hits a Ukrainian troop company, this viewed with thermals.

I'm assuming you frequently follow combat accounts on other social media sites - have you noticed an uptick in combat videos filmed from thermal/IR scopes at the infantry level? It seems like as everyone is now gravitating towards trench warfare, with thermals being the only good way to spot entrenched infantry masked by foliage and camo nets from a distance.

Uptick on using thermals already started from last year. Trench warfare already started last year. Russians heavily relied on thermals and night vision in the take over of Bakhmut and Soledar.

At least in Bakhmut thermals were heavily used by both sides by snipers and special forces, there were footage galore of unaware infantry getting shot in the night. Thermal camera equipped UAVs were also used extensively at night to drop grenades on sleeping troops.

On an infantry level thermals seem to be pretty rare. I've only seen a few Russian snipers with them. The average grunt on either side don't even seem to use scopes.

One western merc I saw some time back made a point that fancy optics weren't useful in this type of warfare. You drop your gun and it becomes useless. You want equipment that is simple cheap and replaceable.

Russians, as in Wagner and VDV, makes it a point to assault Ukrainian positions in Bakhmut at night. You can guess the reason and how.

Much more plentiful than night vision sniper scoping, is night vision being used by ATGMs to hit Ukrainian infiltration DRGs and APCs. Tons of these videos goes back to last year. The other kind of videos that use thermal or night vision are observation of Ukrainian or Russian positions being showered by artillery or MLRS strikes at night. Unlike in the daytime, you can see the tracers of artillery and rockets as they fly and strike the ground followed by big explosions and fragments seen flying all over. I would say the ATGM snipe is the most common of the night or thermal vision videos I have seen and by far the most mesmerizing when you watch the trail of the ATGM, mostly Kornets, head out to it's target followed by a huge explosion.

It never ceases to amaze me how dumb Alex is. He says Ukraine firing 12 missiles simultaneously instead of just one is a sign of Ukraine's weakness.. well I gues that means Russia firing a hundred missiles simultaneously is a sign of Russian weakness if we go by his stupid "logic" ? like come on. Whenever you are dealing with a country that has any decent airdefence you have to fire mutliple missiles per target, you can't just fire one missile and hope it reaches the target, the only case in which you would fire one missile per target would be if you are dealing with say the Taliban or ISIS or something.
