The War in the Ukraine

Being a leader/politician/commander means that you must have the ability to gasp people's hearts.

Putin (head of the fish, that's where the responsibility falls) deciding to rein in Wagner while Russia is still in active war means that he has no idea what "people's hearts" even mean.
A government must have a monopoly on violence within its borders. Russia did not. The only way for Russia to survive in the long term is to restore its monopoly on violence.

The effect of this internal conflict will likely give Ukraine time to re-arm and re-assess where they want to attack. I find it unlikely that Russia will be able to undergo any major offensive actions as a result of Prigozhin's actions.

I also find it highly unlikely that Prigozhin can win against the Russian State. His days are likely numbered.

All depends on what side RU military takes.

Indeed. Monopoly on violence must be preserved. Russia's problem is that the first mistake was done with so heavily relying on Wagner. That's where all this mess started. What we are seeing now is more or less a logical outcome of giving mercenary forces a lot of power, and when trying to rein them in they resist

From my understanding, the Russians believe the Ukrainians still had enough reserves to continue for at least a few weeks or a month and that the main offensive was not committed yet. I don’t believe the Russians had any short term plans to conduct any offensives yet.

So what will happen to Wagners overseas operations? If Russia declare Wagner as treasonous does that mean they are will not longer be allowed to be resupplied via Russia?

I note that this is off topic, can this be moved to the Russian military thread?

Head of LNR, DNR, and St. Petersburg all support the President.

Wagner's office in Petersburg is being searched by interior security forces.

All depends on what side RU military takes.

I find it extremely unlikely that Prigozhin has any high-ranking allies in the Russian military. Suvornikin's statement is most likely intended to show that Wagner's potentially closest ally is not on their side whatsoever.

Chances are it may not be significantly impactful. Mainly because the Russians are not on the offensive but sitting on the defensive.

This is the Russian federal forces best and maybe only chance to stop them with air power. The ruthlessness of using airstrikes should also scare the shit out of any soldiers with wavering loyalties.

Otherwise failure to act now and being bogged down in urban warfare will be ruinous for not just the SMO but the entire legitimacy of the Russian federal government.

On behalf of all the battalion commanders of the 'Tsarist Wolves' Volunteer Brigade, who have just become familiar with Vladimir Putin’s speech (there is poor communication at the front, the video is not loading, my adjutants verbally conveyed the meaning of the statement to the battalion commanders),

I confirm our support for the Supreme Commander and our loyalty to the oath and the Constitution of Russia. Our 58th Order of Suvorov Combined Arms Army courageously holds back the onslaught of the enemy.

Glory to Russia!

The head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, expressed full support for the president's position on the attempted armed rebellion.

Right now the smartest thing to do is to be lenient to all Wagner members, no punishment, no nothing before anyone fires the first shot, all fault lies on Prigozhin personally. Putin seems to be giving this message in his speech so at least they got this right.
