The War in the Ukraine

Or it could well be that they're just desperate, have suffered crippling losses of their more modern tanks and the much vaunted reserve vehicles fleet is largely rusting piles of junk with everything removable long since stripped and sold.

Another issue - T62 requires 4 crew including loader, where will they get those from? As well as the 115mm ammo?
The rational person tries to evaluate all possible reasons for an observation. The delusional person is always certain the righteous reason, as seen through whatever passes for light in his delusion, must be THE reason.

Well indeed. And which are you? Always willing to excuse Russian incompetence and underperformance.

These have been updated in the 80s. They are clearly not up to date but got armor improvement on turret and under the belly, a more powerful engine, an improved fire control system, ability to launch guided missiles from the gun barrel, new night vision system, uses the same wheels and tracks as the T-72.

Good enough for second line duty, and better tanks can go on the front lines. They have been used in Chechnia and South Ossetia too... so they are more or less in active reserve.

Ukrainian have nothing left better than these to throw at them anyway.

Russians behave stupid and inept in this war, but they get things done at the frontline, ukrops can't stop them for now.

All those shiny western tech will not equalise matters.

And the Ukraine is just a pawn in this conflict, what it wants and what it achievea doea not matter in the grander scheme of things.

All the ineptness etc... yet Azovstal happen.. why those ineptness etc just dont let those battle hardened Ukrainian fighters to breakout ?

Or people just want to see what they want to see ?
I was referring to the general strategical thinking, mostly at the beginning of the war. The Kiev detour was dead by birth, plus VVS failed hard at the beginning, things that mustnt have happened.

IMHO they should have just gassed the Azov plant in beginning of mariupol encirclement. Better than dieing from gangrene.

I saw in HistoryLegends's video he quoted an interesting number: Russians are firing 400,000 to 600,000 artillery rounds A DAY in Ukraine (including mortar and rocket artillery I would guess). Wonder if anyone else have seen a source for this number.

From a difference source I hear the production of guided shells like krasnopol are being bottle necked, however production of conventional shells have already been ramped up and there's no shortage of those.

In comparison, US intends to send 200,000 rounds for M777 as part of their aid. Is that correct? Russians are firing that number of rounds at Ukrainian positions before breakfast each day?

Verdun Saw 1.000.000 german shells on the first day and total german strenght was 50 divisions ~ 330k

But back then also alot of small calibre guns like 7.7cm

So plausible?

Arrest large number in steel plant create psychological pressure. the more arrests alive. the more incentives for others to laydown arms. the more opportunities for video calling to families. this create alot of internal pressure on Kiev. the more pressure in Kiev the tougher the demands on Europe from Kiev.
