Yeah, well 2 feet around the MQ-9 was also international airspace and no Flanker needs to avoid it. Not like they shot or rammed it, right?
US is going to release video of it. I think it was planned take down. Two flankers one modern and the other one not. Can you imagine being the pilot of that fighter and being told you might have to hit it with your aircraft? Poor guy has to fly old Flanker and then use it as a weapon... at least that is how it took place in my head. Lulz.

They should hurry up unless it needs some "work" before it shows what they want it to show. It was planned alright, but how was it executed?

So, mid air collision but somehow SU-27 is not go down too?

May be that MQ-9 is collied with some object like 30mm or R27 but US want to save face and being vague?

Well, now there is a claim about both planes not coming into contact at all

I guess we will have to wait until someone releases a video of the incident.

It would be possible for the Flanker to fly slow and ahead of the MQ and force the MQ into the leading plane’s

zone. This would likely cause a loss of lift and/or loss of control for the trailing plane:

This might explain why the SU-27 made it back to base with no reported damage, since it technically didn’t hit anything

Took them long enough to bring out the the good old Barents Sea Scalpel.
Nevertheless it's done, and we have to observe the reaction from US. So far it seems they are chickening out and playing this down.
Considering the irresponsible hysteria about how Russia "took the jet" down by "ramming" it, yeah. We have to play it down.

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. A MQ-9 American drone was detected by Russian airspace control means near the Crimean Peninsula, it violated the boundaries of the area of the temporary airspace regime established during the special operation, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"On 14 March 2023 in the morning, the Russian airspace control systems have detected an American MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle flying over the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula in the direction of the state border of the Russian Federation," the ministry said. " The drone flew with its transponders off, violating the boundaries of the temporary airspace regime established for the special military operation, communicated to all users of international airspace, and published in accordance with international standards."

According to the ministry, following abrupt maneuvering the drone "went into an unguided flight with a loss of altitude and collided with the water surface."

"The Russian aircraft did not use on-board weapons, did not come into contact with the unmanned aerial vehicle, and returned safely to their home airfield," it added.

Might've gotten caught in the jet wash?
Well, now an account is speculating/conspiracy theory that what crashed might not have been an MQ-9 but an RQ-4, as all the data for FORTE10 apparently was deleted from online flight trackers

I wanted to check and indeed flightaware says there hasn't been any data for the past 14 days for FORTE10

But this pro-Ukranian account reported on FORTE10 being active 6 days ago over the Black Sea

An RQ-4 at 57000ft is beyond being bumped by a Flanker, though
